Liquid Foundation Recommendations/Application?

Goodness, I'm asking alot of questions today!

I would like some reccomendations for foundation. I have VERY shiny skin - and incredibly horribly DRY skin at the same. (However in the world that happens, I don't know!) plus redness.

I also have freckles. LOTS of them.

I have been using CG compact powder for forever now - but it just doesn't seem to do the trick. I'd be interested in using liquid foundation, but have a very hard time applying it without caking it. Someone mentioned a brush - how would you apply liquid foundation with a brush?

I don't wear face make-up at work (damn manual labor!) so I wouldn't have to worry so much about sweating it off. But is it safe to wear moiustizer underneath liquid foundation? I'm afraid that using liquid foundation (and even powder!) will just make it look streaky and uneven. But if I DON'T use moisturizer, I'm afraid it will flake.

All recommendations appreciated!
