What I wanted to ask you is does he start treatment right away during the initial consultation??

It is not normal procedure to treat the scars on the 1st consultation (are you a private or NHS patient?) but I spoke with his secretary, Jean, and told her I would be coming a long way (3 hours drive) and I knew I needed treatment etc.. and she spoke with Dr Chu (I had sent him some photos) and he agreed to treat me at the 1st consultation.

You need to enquire about this. They are a flexible bunch.

But bear in mind that he is unlikely to treat your scarring if you have too much active acne. He is more likely to give you n-lite along with some antibiotics and ask you to come back after 1 month to treat the scars.

Good luck!

From my bigger understanding now, I do think that you are an excellent candidate for Isolagen. When I was at Dr Chu's clinic, I saw a lady who was just about to be injected with her first set of Isolagen fibroblasts ... she had similar scarring to you (as in your photos) - her face looked quite red/rough (possibly from dermabrasion/CO2 etc..) all over her face.

I hope so Maya! I'll find out over the next couple of months. Imagine how happy we are going to be this time next year if we get a 50% improvement from our different procedures :D

Maya, thank you for sharing your news. I look forward to hearing about your progress and wish you all the best. When I saw Dr Chu, I did think he was a very fair and caring doctor, not out to make a fast buck so I'm glad you thought the same.

I'm having my first injection on 7th July and will keep everyone posted.

Lordcoleman, thank you for sharing your good news. Please do keep us updated on your progress. Let's hope we will experience good results too!

Maya: just got your photos, I thought we had similar scarring from your posts, but obviously not! I have way more scarring than that (you have hardly any), I guess I have mainly boxcar's and hardly any ice pick.

btw, you say your 40, but you dont look a day over 30!

Thanks for the compliment CS! :D My scarring is much better now than 1 year ago - It has been the result of 2 self needling projects and 2 professional needling procedures plus LOADS of lactic peels, copper peptides, emu oil, jojoba oil, vinegar, manuka honey etc.. etc..

Don't worry that you currently have bad scarring. I am convinced that with all these fantastic techniques that have started in the last few years, everyone will find a resolution.

and I must say.... that my face today (day 4 of N-lite and subcision) looks a bit plumper and smoother (not the individual pits but the overall skin tone) - Is it the N-lite? ... or is it the whole bottle of emu oil and half bottle of copper peptides I have soaked my skin in the last few days? Hard to tell LOL!!!

You got any close ups?

In yesteday's (Sat 28th) Telegraph newspaper magazine, there was a page about dermatologists in the UK. It gave a list of the top consultants in the UK (around 10 or so)and Dr Chu's details were at the top of the list, saying he specialised in rosacea, acne and other scarring.

I had my first set of injections today. This involved approx. 30 mins of numbing cream followed by approx. 45 mins of injections by Dr Chu. He was very thorough and took great care. He must have injected around 50 to 60 pits and also did a few frown lines.

Immediately after, I had red bumps over most of my face. It is now 8 hours after and most of the redness and bumps have subsided. It should all be cleared by tomorrow.

Dr Chu said that I was unlikely to notice an improvement till the second set of injections (the case with many of his patients). Although some of my pits initially appeared more shallow, I think this was because of swelling.

The lab will notify him when the next set of injections is ready (3 to 6 weeks). He said that his patients cells' grew at different rates. One patients cells were ready in 6 weeks but another had to wait 20 weeks.

He also said that Isolagen Labs now recomend 5 sets of injections rather than 3. He will review each patient's progress approx. 2 months after the third set and then decide if more are required.

No special aftercare was prescribed, but I have used CP serum a couple of times for good measure.

As I said before, I think Dr Chu is a great doctor. Besides his experience and qualifications, he is also very caring and fair. He said some of my scars were still quite deep and he might perform subcision again next time.

I will keep everyone posted but I guess I'm unlikely to see much until after the next set of injections.
