The richest sources of omega-3 EFAs on the planet are flaxseed oil, borage oil and evening primrose oil.

Yeah, but fish oils are contaminated with somewhat significant levels of heavy metals.

Could you share what type of shakes you have please?  Thank you.

I take ProGain by Maximuscle: 500kcal, 32g protein, plus lots of carbs as opposed to purely a protein shake, as I'm bulking up alongside my workout schedule to get back in shape after a very withdrawn past few months.

check out http://www.bodybuilding.com for the best products and prices anywhere on the internet, not just for protein shakes but for most health supplements in general.

thanks for the above link, antony. i've checked it out and agree - the prices are the most reasonable i've seen anywhere. holy quick service too, i ordered the Total EFA yesterday morning and it was on my porch - TODAY!!?!

i've been doing some research on the omega -3 and 6 proper balance and came to the conclusion that my diet was far too high with regard to omega 6 sources. these past few days i've been concentrating on increasing the omega 3's and seem to notice improvement in my skin already. i'm completely clear right now which is a very RARE occurance.. and especially interesting because i've been concurrently experimenting with adding small amounts of sugar to see if i notice any negative consequence. to date, there has been none. eusa_pray.gif

specifically, i've had either a handful of jolly rancher jelly beans and/or 2 reese's peanut butter cups every day for the past week. no new breakouts, yet. although i've also increased my daily exercise - which may offset things too. or could be a result of my body being in basically 'detox' mode for the past 2 months (strict diet, liver herbs, etc.) and just able to handle things better now. who the hell knows. wacko.gif

So I've been searching the forum to see if anyone else has had any experience with sunflower seeds and acne, and I found this thread. I have been experiencing the same thing! I've been eating a lot of sunflower seeds each day (the only thing I'm eating that's different) and I've noticed my skin getting worse...

How did they smell? Good or not so good? Sunflower seeds should smeel fresh and good and they're very aromatic, if they smelll different than that they're rancid. They're better stored away from the light and for a very small amount of time. Rancid fats are good for your body but are also very bad for your skin
Just guessing

Sounds like a possible allergy. If I eat flax seeds my skin breaks out completely in tiny pimples everywhere. The more I eat, the worse it is. So I've strictly avoided them for months.

You could try sprouting them and see if it still breaks you out.

Pine nut kernels -- good call! I never would have thought of that. By the way, I just looked up sunflower seeds in Dr. Perricone's book and on page 55, he cites sunflower seeds as a "good for acne" / anti-inflamatory food. However, I suspect that the problem is the QUANTITY I've been eating. I also love pumpkin seeds so I'll start eating those along w/ pine nuts. Thank you!

the problem lies in the quality. I eat tons of sunflower seeds everyday and I am very sensitive to foods. First of all there is alot of protein in sunflower seeds. If you are going to start taking in protein you need to gradually increase your intake. Now I eat sunflower seeds that are RAW UNSHELLED .. Not roasted, not salted. This will NOT make you break out. When the shell is removed they either heat the shell or freeze the seed. This creates toxins, thus creates your breakout

I have been eating about 4-5 handfuls of sunflower seeds aday and it has been breaking me out in places i never get spots. Its terrible. So beware they are problematic in large amounts.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Tom

I too have noticed this. Even raw organic unsalted sunflower seeds will break me out.

I have just reintroduced sunflower seeds back into my diet because I have no other way to get enough vitamin E.

I am experimenting by limiting my consumption to 1/4 cup per day or less since this will give me the vitamins I need while keeping my omega 3-6 ratio in check.

It has only been a week and a half so I will post back later.
