I've had acne since I was a freshman in H.S. I've been on every medication known to man, and went on Acutane in July (2003). I was all excited b/c in November (2003) my face was actually clear. It had to be the happiest day of my life. I couldn't remember the last time I had clear skin. I was on Cloud 9. My face was clear for about 6 months. In the beginning of June I started breaking out again. I've gone back on Minocyclene as well as some topical stuff, but that hasn't been too much of a help. Last week, my mom ordered me some ProActive. It's a 60 day money back guarentee...so she figured why not. I got the products on Vday...so I've had them for almost a week. My face started clearing up, and now I'm breaking out again. Granted it's been nearly a week...but honestly...my patience is shot. I'm 24yrs old...and I still have acne...and it SUX. Does anyone have any advice or anything....or maybe even a little success story/pep talk?

hey, im in the same situation.. 20.. started at 17 or so.. breaking out daily, but it's better than the summer.. I was on minocycline as well, but it didn't seem to help much so i switched to retin-a micro.. and.. well I cleared up since summer, but it's not a miracle product.. I breakout, but the recovery times are faster.. it's really an everyday struggle though with the dryness and instances of being clear.. then proceeded by feeling like crap.

If you don't want to deal with Accutane again, there's really not much you can do, just keep trying and hopefully the proactiv will work for you.. I know I tried it a couple years ago, but it didn't get the job done..

Acne's really a hard thing to deal with.. I think we all tell ourselves every night that "it doesn't matter" and to just be strong and feel good being yourself... but it's really hard to do that when you don't feel comfortable with yourself..

Oh, and with the proactiv, make sure you have a good moisturizer, I know that the renewing cleanser was a bit harsh for me.

I mean...my breakouts aren't as bad as they once were b/c I was on Accutane. But I think that come Sept., if my acne isn't controlable or virtually gone, I'm seriously thinking about going back on it a 2nd time. I would do it now....but I don't have benefits. And no benefits=no insurance. So hopefully....it will work out.

I don't mean to sound harsh, but I recommend strongly against proactive, the only really useful product of it is the repairing lotion which is a 2.5 benzoil peroxide which is nothing special for the high price.

If you find benzoil peroxide effective, try Dan's great benzoil peroxide, or somethign like benzamycin or Benzaclin which have an additional antibiotic in those creams.

I found proactiv to be too harsh on my skin...it caused me to breakout even more (after the nice, get your hopes up, clear skin period)! I'm now using the Murad system...and not having much luck with that either! I know how it feels to keep trying and trying...and have nothing workout in the end...I'm almost twenty...and I've had trouble with my skin since I was in junior high! Good luck with proactiv...don't give up on it yet because it could just be purging your skin...but be careful...the lotion will bleach your clothes, sheets, and anything else it gets on!

i try not to be pessimistic...but i don't think its gonna work. it's not being too harsh my skin....unfortunately...i have oily skin....so i don't think it will cause too much dry skin. it's free for 60 days....so im not too concerned. i basically only paid $5 for shipping...so to me it's all good. im seriously considering going back on accutane for round 2. right now...i see that as my only option.
