I find ice always makes it redder for a moment and then bumpy and whiteish with a pinkish ring around it like a mosquito bite 10 seconds later...but then that just might be me...

If it's got a head, then go ahead and lance it with a sterile needle and relief it of the pus. As long as you are careful and gentle, that's the best thing to do. I wrote a whole post this before.

Don't think theres a head. Just a big round... red bump.. looks filled, nothing is raised on it. Just the size that's bothering me.

If there's no visible head then don't lance it, you'll only make it worse. You can try to draw out the puss to a head by soaking it in warm/hottish water. I found that applying a piece of tissue soaked in tea tree oil also helps bring it to a head. When you see a head, pop it and squeeze it to death. Make sure you're hands are clean and sterilise the area with alcohol or an antiseptic before and afterwards.
