I love my mineral makeup. It covers so well and doesn't seem to cause breakouts, but it is very cakey. I don't typically wear moisturizer and was wondering if this might help the problem. I usually just put it (the makeup) on top of bp. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It could be the BP mixing with the mineral makeup and causing it to get cakey, it could also be that you're using a tad too much. What brand are you using, and what are you using to apply it? Sometimes that's the key. I know certain mineral makeups you only need a small amount or else they can look thick and cakey. A moisturizer or makeup primer over your BP could help, too. Make sure you allow whatever you apply under your makeup to sink in for at least 5 minutes, or it could make your minerals go on thicker.
What you may want to try to smooth out your final look and absorb any excess foundation is a flocked sponge. It's like a little oval sponge that almost has a velour-type feel, very soft and absorbent, and you can use it to tap at any areas where you can still see pores or you've overapplied your minerals. They sell them at Sally's Beauty Supply and probably any beauty supply store. They're washable, too. Some of the mineral makeup companies also offer these on their websites (I know J.Lynne Cosmetics has some up on the website and is taking preorders for all the brushes and application tools after Feb. 21st). I think the flocked sponges are best for polishing up your final application because they absorb but they also kind of "buff out" the minerals and make them look even better. For how cheap they are, you can have a couple and rotate them so you'll have one for use while you wash the other.
Hope that helps,
