I agree with xxillusion. We should have some sort of snappy comeback for people who say insensitive things. Maybe we should all put our heads together and start compiling a list.

OMG, don't even get me started on the "why are you so thin?" remarks. They're almost as bad as the acne ones. There's "are you anorexic?" and "don't you EVER eat?" And at social gatherings, everyone feels free to commet on what I do or don't have on my plate. My best friend gets it even worse than me. She's so small she has to wear clothes from the children's department. Her comeback is really good. Whenever someone makes a catty remark about her being so thin, she tells them she has a tapeworm.
I'm so sorry your aunt had to endure so much suffering. I'm always amazed by people who can be in pain and still be upbeat.
greenenvy,
I'm sorry about your Clinique experience. She gave you pamphlets and sent you away? That's awful! I hope you found makeup you liked and still had fun at your prom.
I have pretty much decided all makeup counter people are to be avoided like the plague.

People are so cruel, or thoughtless, I guess. My aunt was always very, very thin, and people (especially overweight ones) would come up to her and say, "Don't you EAT?" My aunt would say, "Well, I try to, but I have artificial bone in my jaw that causes pain everytime I chew, and my stomach is the size of a walnut due to fibromyalgia and other conditions. And, because I'm so thin, I now have very little cushion to protect my bones, and, with my osteoarthritis, I'm very breakable, too. But, thanks for your concern." Usually, the insensitive person would slink away.
I get many many people tell me im scrawny or skinny, but for some reason I don't care at all about that. But if someone commented on my acne, I would fuckin flip out.

I had a similar problem with my mom...after the birth of my second child, it was around my birthday, and she calls and says "I'm going shopping for you and I was just wondering if you're ever going to lose that weight so I know what size to buy." I was all of a size 8 then. But, to her, I was obese. Brother.
We all just need to remember that people like that are attacking us because they have their own issues they don't want known...the old saying is when there is one finger pointing at someone, there are three pointing back at the pointer!
It's taken me many years to learn that the best defense (and offense) is to kill people with kindness. Smiling sweetly and giving them a compliment when they're attacking will shut them up everytime and may even make a friend out of them!
