I've had mild to moderate acne since I was in grade 7 and I'm gonna be 19 in March. I just started accutane 2 or 3 weeks ago and I'm really clearing up finally. However, the more I look at myself, the more I realize that beauty doesn't matter. I was superficial before, but now... I don't give a fuck about how someone looks.

Of course it matters. Anyone who tells you otherwise is either lying or fooling themselves. It's hard coded into human DNA.
Which is precisely why I avoid most forms of social contact. It's really a cost/benefit decision.

It doesn't really matter unless you are talking about physical attraction. But, still, some people can still manage to see past our acne and still be attracted to us. But, still, we all want to look our best. Having sores on your face is not a universal sign of good health and it's only natural to be concerned about it.
It's good that you are clearing up though and I'm glad you are getting a much needed relief.

I don't mean I'm gonna be attracted to someone who's a burn victim, or morbidly obese... I just mean, beauty doesn't matter after you've gotten to know the person.

Yes first impressions can be bad to base things off. Luckily alot of those that don't attempt to look on the surface find treasure undereath. Or something proverbial like that.

I agree
Of course looks matter, it affects our self esteem, and even your career.
I'm messed in my head because of my face, so the comment about looks not mattering does my head in...

On the other hand, and as I have said before, the mind can definitely overcome a lot. A strong and confident and fun personality can do way more than compensate for bad acne. I've met people that most people would feel sorry for upon first impression, but then later you realize that there is just nothing to feel sorry for this person about because they have such great personalities and you actually look up to them and even envy them and want to be around them all the time. They can be the center of attention and have a lot more friends than anyone. Know anyone like that?
Well, my point is, as I've said before, be strong and survive your acne problems now and work on your personality. Be strong now and you'll be invincible later when the weight of acne is lifted when you outgrow it. Trust me on this. Get out of the house and mingle and perseveer. Be a rebel! Demand to be included and taken seriously, not by force, but through charm and sense of humor, or whatever other personality trait you have to offer. It's easier than you think... it's all in your head. Do this, just try 10% harder, that's all, just 10% more effort, and you'll be amazed at how much things will improve. Don't waste time wallowing in your misery. You deserve to enjoy your life so don't let anyone or anyone's ideas or your demons inside stand in your way.

Actually it's not personality that matters. It's what you've done, achieved or have the potential to achieve. No one cares about who you are, only what you can do (for them). I've found this out the hard way and I haven't recovered since.

It's not even that simple my friend! Both matter! And, they are both one in the same!
