Holy...

I got an update. So I've been doing some research and analyzing the factors in my life that may be abnormal enough to be causing the acne. My diet's pretty standard, as is most else in my life, but then I realized something. I'm somewhat of a hermit, and I spend most of my day indoors, without exposure to the sunlight, especially since my blinds are shut in my windows.

Our skin naturally uses sunlight to synthesize Vitamin D, however the downside to this is that it degrades collagen (elastic) fibers in your skin, thus leading to aging skin, as well as the risk of skin cancer due to UV rays. Despite this, I thought that the lack of sunlight was probably a factor. Humans have been living in the sunlight since their dawn--our recently sedentary lifestyles are creating this lack of sun now.

Today I spent about a half-hour outside during lunch where I would normally otherwise stay inside. I also took a long sleep during the day with my windows blinds pulled up open so the sun could shine in on my face. Honestly, it's been nearly 6 hours since I've woken up, and the quality of my facial skin feels really great.

They say that sunlight can interfere with acne medications, so I wouldn't recommend this to everyone. But today it's been great to me, especially since I haven't been on topicals for 6 months. I'm going to continue getting a healthy amount of sunlight daily. I'm fairly confident this is the key factor in my acne production.

Hope this helps you guys.

This is the only thing I'm doing to modift and better fit my own water only regimen--
I bought a monthly tanning package today, 8 mins in a bed only.. but I'm hoping it will improve since I've worked a graveyard shift for the last nine months, and I've lived on this lake spending every summer in the sun BESIDES this year.. =(

im trying this stuff called giovanni organic shampoo that works great... my hair is less oily hence my face is now less oily in the process, im also using a product called rose facial wash everyother day.. you can check it out on rosemountainherbs.

im continueing with the water only (and this herbal wash for my hair and face i use only everyother day) has done really nice for my acne, all i have now are just some whiteheads clearing up because i was using this st. ives type facial scrub and caused excessive dryness (SUPRISE! the dry parts of my face had acne). so yeah, ill keep you posted if i see any other type of breakout, (my face is still a tad dry and still oily from all those harsh products and overwashing in the past, so im thinking of going back to my moisturizer if it gets too dry again).

Someone here said that shampoo causes acne, it could be true! i used to use a product that had sodium laurel sulfate in it and thats what is also in toothpaste and shampoo, i heard it clogs the pores so maybe thats just another chemical we use on our body to create acnes and dryness and oilyness!

if your going to use something make sure it doesnt have chemicals like hard-to-pronounce shite in them... look at 100% organic products that have things like herbs and jojoba oils aloe vera etc. and youll be good.

Gonna check out that too adam. Yeah, I think shampoo is also causing acne because it flows to our body when we wash it.

When your skin flakes, I'm assuming it's going to be dry. True your skin will shed but it's not natural. Your body was already made to properly maintain the right moisture in your skin. You really don't need lotion unless you feel it's really dry. As for the red marks, just let time pass. Speeding the process up will only hinder your skin's recovery. Just ignore it and don't even think about it. It's been a year and a month now since my severe acne and my skin is almost flawless except the few red/purple marks aka macules (I believe it goes to red-->light purple-bluish--> then it's gone). It seems like each month that passes now that my pimples are gone, my skin is looking and feeling so much better. It's CLEAR SILKY SMOOTH !! MUHAHA!

Dude, if skin's shedding is not natural then we would have a very thick layer of skin. Shedding is the way of the skin to maintain itself on it's optimum performance. You better read skin biology. It explains a lot.

And I am happy for you now that you have recovered your clear skin!! But do not spread misinformation dude for the sake of many. Red/purple marks are not natural in the skin so the system itself find it's way to correct it. And the best way the skin do it is through shedding. And to tell you, in my regimen there is no rushing things, how can you say you rushing things when you don't even interfere in the slightest bit?

I was responding to the guy who said he knew a faster way to remove macules by keeping your skin flaky. What you said is what I pretty much said. I think you misread it lol. Those purple/red marks are called macules and they fade eventually over time. 90% of dust in your home is actually caused from dead skin cells on your body. I wrote a paper/blog about this regimen and expanded my knowledge with other research to confirm that the acne epidemic is mainly caused by acne medications and products. I added some stuff that Jon might have missed out on. You can check it out here ...

hi. im really grateful that ive bumped into this site.

i have some few questions before trying the regimen.

i dont know if i have acne but right now i have 2 big zits in my forehead, 2 big ones in my right cheek, 1 under my lower lip. thats really pathetic. im just using a DOVE SOAP in the morning when i take a bath and an an ESKINOL TONER in the evening before i go to bed. there are days when i have clear skin but there are also times just like now when i have really breakouts. after everything has come out, i would have clear skin again and then a week or two, they would start coming out again.

im planning to go to derma clinic to have a FACIAL TREATMENT to cure my pimples and to remove my blackheads and to clear my face. until i read this. now im hesitant.

does MEDICATION(as what most of you are saying not to do it) include FACIAL TREATMENT? would you advise it?

moreso, im planning to try the VINEGAR and the HOT WATER thing. when i do so, does this mean i have to let go of my ESKINOL AND DOVE? DOVE is like the mildest soap there is. and its got MOISTURIZERS.

furthermore, do i have to put vinegar all over my face or just in the pimples? and does this mean i have to use LUKEWARM WATER in TAKING A BATH? or is it okay to wash my face first with lukewarm water and take a bath with a cold water then not use soap. is the hot water enough to remove the dirt accumulated in the face. im a student and i really have a bath of dirt the moment i go out of the house.

last, what would you suggest that i do to REMOVE BLACKHEADS before it turn into really big zits?

Just remember that it has to be non-comedogenic.

-Also, if you have school or work, when you get home, wash your face and put some kind of cream. Not a moisturizing cream. That totals to 3 washes. Morning, middle wash, and night wash.

When you say WASH, you mean with hot water? what exact type of CREAM?

And what is non-comedogenic by the way? what particular example?

And when you say use vinegar, you mean put vinegar all over the face at night? before you go to sleep? eusa_think.gif

You definitely need a cleanser to remove make up - they're not formulated to be removed by just water. The original poster was a guy, and he's said a couple times that he doesn't know how it works with girls and make up. What I do most of the time is water-only with a vinegar toner to help clean and exfoliate. If I wear make up, I use a very gentle non-comedogenic, non-medicated cleanser that is for dry/sensitive skin (the ones for oily skin tend to make your skin worse over time because they're too harsh).

Totally correct! The more organic, the better. Sodium Laureth Sulfates, etc etc are bad for your skin. So are all those other products that contain things you cannot even pronounce!! Some overdry your skin or strip it of the good oils and stuff... some are so harsh and have even been known to cause cancer!

Giovanni is a great line of hair products that are NATURAL.
Jason brand products are also great.
ROSEWATER or rose/type of cleansers are some of the most natural type and smell so awesome.

I've even resulted myself to just soaking every other day in a sea salt bath with warm water and then actually only using soaps/shampoos like every other day or every two days.

One thing to remember that I've learned after starting regimens like this or using more natural products, is I use less hairspray/makeup/lotions/topicals and products after my bath/showers too... I let my skin breathe... NATURAL is the way to GO!

I didn't read through every post so I apologize if my questions have already been answered.

I don't disagree with your thought process that all the medications make the acne worse and I'm not sure of much of my acne is caused by my doing or it is just naturally there (such as the blackheads all over my nose).

Some questions regarding your regimen. If you are a woman who wears make up I would think only using water wouldn't take off all the make up and then clog your pores. What do woman do who are following this regimen?

Regarding the vinegar how should it be used? Poured onto a towel and swabbed over your face? Does it matter what king of vinegar we use?

Thanks!

Makeup: look 2 posts above yours for the answer.

Vinegar: I use it as a toner, so I put a little in a bowl (about 1/2 teaspoon), and pour water in there to dilute it. I use rice vinegar and dilute it a lot - at least 70/30 (30 vinegar). Some people use it full strength as spot treatments (I think it's too harsh), but I use it as a toner because I don't have that many pimples anymore. I mostly use it for exfoliation and clearing red spots. I use a round cotton pad, soak it in the bowl and gently smooth it around my face and under the chin.

Based on my own experience, and reading these posts, the different vinegars have slightly different affects on the skin, so you should try different kinds. Since you have to buy an entire bottle you should make sure you're going to cook with it so you don't waste it. I found that ACV (apple cider vinegar) was too drying for me, but rice vinegar was just right. I also tried red wine vinegar, which felt a little stronger, but I have sensitive skin so rice vinegar is the way to go for me.

I use water-only the majority of the time. If I wear make up then i have to use a gentle cleanser at night (usually once a week or less). But I never use any cleansers in the morning. My skin is more resilient, oil is balanced, few pimples, no more flakiness or redness (except for hyperpigmentation marks). The first few weeks you'll see stuff coming out of your pores. You're skin is getting stronger at pushing that crap out since you're not irritating it with topicals.

Also, I recently discovered rassoul clay. I know this isn't part of the water-only method, but I'm totally in love with it. It satisfies my need to "do" something to my skin, and it's gentle. I mix it with rose water, some essential oils, turmeric, green tea extract, and sandalwood power (since I spent money on all that stuff a few months ago, I might as well use it up). Immediately after using it my skin feels smooth, even toned, and calm. I've only used it a couple times (4 days in between) but we'll see how my skin handles it in the long term.

I also use a chamomile/vitamin serum moisturizer during the day, and aloe vera/manuka honey acne gel at night. Again, not water only method, but it's not medicated and it's full of soothing stuff.

I don't think any of the natural products I use are necessary, and I believe in the water-only method, but I just love my botanicals! And it makes my skin feel good, so what the heck. =)

Basically the environment causes acne. As Bruce Lipton says - change the environment and the cell will heal... It's also a matter of belief...

I'm curious about this regimen.

So, are you allowed to use a cleanser on this? or only just water? How about moisturizers?

I'm glad you guys bumped this thread, until today I haven't come across this and I like the idea of this. I never believed that products would really help my skin but I did it anyways because I couldn't stand not doing anything, however now that I think about I get acne in places I didn't before and it makes sense that it's the cause of all these products I have put on my face. So thanks jan carlos for this thread, it's given me motivation cool.gif .
