I've looked at your web site and numerous others. Some say that sericite mica mattifies. Other sites say that mica makes your face shiny. Which is it?
Hi Jubilee,
I think the confusion comes from the fact that there are different types of mica used in cosmetics. SERECITE (plain, uncoated/uncolored/untreated mica) is very light-weight, soft, and has no shimmer or luster. Serecite mica will help mattify your skin, minimize pores, and is excellent when used as a primer or finishing powder. This is the main ingredient in my Multi-Powder line.
MICA (sometimes referred to as "Cosmetic-Grade Mica", "Colored Mica", "Mica Pigment") also comes in different colors and particle sizes. Some micas are matte, some have luster, some are shimmery, and some positively sparkle. Micas with any kind of luster, shimmer, or sparkle will give a glow to your skin. (These are the micas that I use in my Mineral Glow powders.) These micas are sometimes used in foundation when the formulator wants to give the foundation a more dewy, lustrous finish. My foundation uses only plain serecite mica, so the foundation finish is matte with no glow or shine.
I hope that helps! If you have any questions, please let me know!
