Hi Amanda,
I'm working on creating my own mineral makeup line, so maybe I'm a little biased (LOL!) but mineral makeup has definitely worked better for my acneic skin than ANYTHING else I've ever tried!
I will be honest with you though -- I still have acne, even though I use minerals daily and have changed my skincare routine to benefit my sensitive skin. Although my acne has improved a lot in the last year since I've been using minerals, the blemishes still come and go. But if you're looking for makeup that will help cover your acne, keep from clogging your pores, and be free of synthetics, mineral cosmetics are the way to go!
Take care.

I think it keeps the skin in a more natural state and protects it from the sun without nasty chemicals. I use the regimen here, and have cleared significantly. Mineral make up is now the only thing to touch this face! I use Cory Cosmetics right now but am waiting im-patiently to try the Jlynnecosmetis line

Hiya Pookie!
That's an excellent way to describe mineral makeup! A good mineral foundation will only have between 3 - 6 ingredients total, and should be comprised only of naturally-occuring minerals and ingredients like Titanium Dioxide and Mica. In addition, Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide have natural barrier protection against the sun, which means that whenever you're wearing mineral foundation, you have an added layer of sunscreen built right in! (You should always wear sunscreen, even under mineral makeup, but it's great to know that there's some NATURAL sun protection right in the foundation!)
Take care!

Mica is what makes my skin red and Irritated, will you have any mineral makeup without the mica?

Hi there,
I'm sorry to hear that you have a sensitivity to mica; I'm curious as to how you determined that it was the mica that bothered your skin, rather than other ingredients. All of my products use mica -- both in its uncolored form (serecite) and as pigment. Mica sensitivity seems to be pretty rare, and it's pretty much impossible to create lustrous or shimmering colors without using mica, which is why I've chosen to use it in my products. I do hope you're able to find something that works for you though!
Take care!

Hi there,
Please keep in mind that there are two different types of mica -- pure, uncoated mica powder that is completely MATTE and very sheer (also known as serecite); the mica used in cosmetics to add shine, shimmer, and color has been treated and coated with pigments (such as iron oxides and titanium dioxide) and then refined to add different degrees of sparkle and luster. I do not use colored mica in my foundations, but I do have a number of "glow powders" created with colored mica which can be used as a finishing powder over the foundation to give some luster to the skin. Otherwise, my foundations are completely matte.
The mica you will find in MOST mineral foundations is in serecite form, and does not cause shine. If your foundation does give your skin a very shiny, glowy appearance, you should ask the company what kind of mica they use in their formula, and if they use bismuth oxychloride, which is the mica-like ingredient that is used in BE foundations to give the glowing, "shiny" finish.
Bigchucks -- if your skin is becoming irritated from mica, it's probably the color-treated mica that's giving you a problem, because of its larger particle size. Serecite is SUPER light-weight, sheer, and soft -- so it shouldn't cause irritation when used in foundation, and should actually help control shine. I hope that helps!
Take care!

I myself have oily skin and was thinking about trying mineral makeup. I did some research and found Mineral Secrets http://www.skinrxclinic.com/mineral_secrets.htm
They claim to be one of the only companies that do not include mica in their mineral makeup. The best thing is that you are able to buy samples for 8 dollars, which is ideal for myself. If I dont like it, then I wouldnt have wasted too much money. Plus they seem to have shades for darker ethnic complexions. I have not found mineral makeup for darker african american skin tones. I hope it works!!!!!

Hi, Ebsweetie.
I've been using Mineral Secrets for about a month (I think) and I love it. My skin is clearer and my rosacea appears to be improving in appearance. I will never use anything but mineral makeup on this face again. I am looking forward to trying Lynne's mineral makeup when she starts up this month. I'm not committed to Mineral Secrets if I find another mineral makeup that works.
Good luck to you.

Mineral makeup makes my skin very oily. My skin also prefers a talc base to a corn starch base (I need something oil absorbing to apply over, under, or mix with the minerals). Starch bases seem to cause clogs in my skin. In the end, I was much happier using revlon colorstay foundation (it did not aggravate my acne whatsoever) and a commercial talc-based powder over it. When my skin improved and I no longer needed the coverage, I switched to pressed powder foundation. I used Palladio for a while (but the color was a bit too dark), and now use Shiseido powdery foundation (which I am very happy with).
