If I wanted to keep my facial skin into its beneficial acid mantle range of 5.5... could I do the following...

I do believe that my cleanser is close to 7 to scale, if I wanted to lower that to 5.5... could I add a little bit of lemon juice to it to lower the PH of it? I'd measure it of course with Litmus Paper to get the correct reading first.

Currently I wash, then apply my BHA (with a PH of 3) and then my moisturizer with SPF15 (with a PH of 7.5) which the two neutralize each other to around 5.5 PH... therefore if I could get my cleanser down to 5.5 ... my skin would constantly be at its favorable PH...

I'm I correct to assume this?

Jason ANy feedback is welcomed... wink.gif

I don't know how long fresh lemon juice lasts but I know not as long as cleansers. If you don't have some preservatives in there or something to prolong the life of the lemon juice I don't think it will work. However if you do this everyday, than ya, I don't see a problem.

Adjusting pH isn't a simple thing to do. Remember that pH levels are in logs, it doesn't mean that 5.6 is one point higher than 5.5. One drop of lemon juice can change the pH level dramatically. Also buy a pH test, Hanna makes a very good portable one that isn't too expensive and it is very accurate...Litmus paper is not. When we buffer acids, the buffering agents are measured in micrograms..this can be very difficult to do at home. a much easier solution is to rinse your face well ... with distilled water, it has a pH of approximately 7.6 so that should do the trick.

Yes I know it's hard to do, but you're not going ot be very scientific anyway when mixing a strong acid such as lemon with a cleanser. There are many things in the cleanser that could affect the PH or cause a reaction. Even if the solution ends up being really acidic, it won't be as acidic as a straight lemon, which many here already put on their faces. So it's not like he's going to burn anything.

I didn't mean to imply that the lemon would be harmful...it just seemed that Jason was aiming for a very specific pH wink.gif

thanks guys for the feedback.... I was just wondering if it would work... obviously I wouldn't do it without the help of PH meters or litmus paper...

my only problem is to try to find such things//

vinegar is acidic and lasts forever...use that instead of lemon.
