On another board I frequent, someone jist posted me the following:
I had subcision for $100
I had subcision done (you call it needling) just two days ago. I had 9 depressed scars on my right cheek/temple and 7 scars on my left. I went to a derm in Saratoga, CA--Dr Abrams. She is really good and she only charged me $100 for all the scars. So far my skin is level with slight swelling and bruising. She used only one needle and I could hear the scar tissue under my skin being broken. She did numb my face which made the procedure painless. Please try a derm that specializes in skin and that can do subcision/needling. This is our face. The last thing we want are holes all over our face. Also, she GAVE me a 5 days supply of an antibiotic to prevent infection and a topical ointment to prevent infection. My skin looks great. She suggested that I have one or more treatments done--all at $100. She is even open two Saturdays a month. She will do the procedure the same day. I am so happy now, and I have been depressed for so long about my acne scarring. Needling/subcision was the answer for me. Good luck.

I appreciate your pointing out the fact that permanent makeup artists are used to working around delicate areas such as the eyelids. I have never had anything like that done, but I should have known that from all of my research. (Just goes to show what nervousness will do to your ability to figure out common sense things.) Yes, you are right though. What skin is there that is thinner or more delicate than the skin on our eyelids anyway?!!
I am glad you didn't think I was silly for mentioning the stretch marks and C-section scar. (And since you've had children in this manner yourself, you know EXACTLY what I am describing here.) My scar starts just under my bellybutton, and goes all the way down… It is long, fat and very unsightly. What a great bonus if this needling treatment would help to improve that as well as my face!
(BTW--God bless you in raising twins. I have 4 kids, but thankfully have only had to deal with them (at their various stages of development) one at a time. I could not imagine doing two infants, toddlers or teens who are at the exact same stage, at the exact same time. You must have been given an extra dose of patience!)
I think with Christmas only being a few weeks away, I'll postpone the doctor until after the holiday rush is over with. Thanks again for all of your helpful advise.

My C- section was done in a bikini line fashion, so the sar itself is not too bad - but I do have horrible stretchmarks all the way up to my belly button! (I was quite skinny when I got pregnant and I guess the twin bulge was pretty bad for my skin (went all the way to 40 weeks and the babies were of normal weight) Hmmm, yes, I would love to get rid of those stretchmarks!!!
From the sound of your C-section scar, I'm pretty sure that needling would help with that. I remember reading that doctors are needling scars of women who've had breast aumentation - because the scar was raised and apparent under the breast. So, it seems it works for raised and indented scars.
Seriously, having twins isn't difficult - I have no other kids - so I didn't know any better. They are both boys (non-identical) and now they are nearly 10 - they enjoy the same sports and I never have to do the mad juggling that I see other parents doing - like dropping off at different schools, clubs etc. You really have your hand full!! You must be a saint!
Oh well, I guess we both deserve to be free from our scars.

Yes, count yourself hired!
Now - I think our campaign should cover:
Free scar treatments
Free supplements
Free peels and lotions
Free Child care (ooh, yes, please!)
Hey - actually, my scars have got so much better from my self-needling. I went to see my Naturopath today and she noticed!! I told her about my self needling, and she was impressed. She wasn't even shocked that I took a needle to myself- she said that if something works, then I should continue doing it.
It's still pretty bad though - as there's a lot of it.

It sounds like Yumi (from the other board) continues to improve every day as well.
The permanent makeup artist I have chosen is only available 2 days per week--she spends the rest of the week working as a surgical nurse. That is going to make it tough for me as she is located 3 hours away and now I will have to have my husband take off a regular work day to drive me there. (I don't like to do long drives alone--especially into unfamiliar territory.) I want to get out there next week, so I hope it will work out. I am very anxious to see if this treatment will help me, but don't want to rush into a regular tattoo salon just yet. I'll keep you posted.
Take care,
Beth

Hello! Where in the UK are you?
This lady - all I know is her name is Julie and she is the director of a beauty clinic - she is going to give me a call when she has got her machine (she's gone to the states to get it) she won't be ready to offer needling treatments until January I think. My Naturopath (who I trust very much) knows her.
Will keep you posted - send me a private message on this board and then I will update you when I have full details.
Take care
Maya

Thank you for posting someones reply in regard to subcision. I always want to express my concern on skin needling and the holes it can leave all over ones face. I just had a 2nd subcision this a.m. and the results from the 1st one 7 mos ago were fairly good. It was done by an MD (Derm) who has done several and he was more aggressive on this one so it could possibly be my last.
I don't know enough about skin needling to voice an opinion but feel spending a little more $ on a trained MD might save ones skin in the long run.

I'd fly over really, if that's the kinda results I'd be guaranteed to get.

O.k. I spent some time reading losts of posts on "skin needling" and it looks like the same concept BUT with subcision there are no scabs from it only some bruising. The Doc explained the technique with the type of needle he uses. I have no pin holes only some bruising. Maybe it's all in the technique why subcision seems to be effective in breaking up the old collagen and stimulating new growth for optimal scar leveling with the skin's surface.

I've been reading all of your posts. I hope that everything is going well and that you continue to achieve positive results. Concerning your post on Monday about anyone being based in Saratoga, CA I live about 20 minutes from there. Could you give me some more info about that person's reply concerning Dr. Abrams? I'm curious about subcision and would like to find out more. Thanks.

Who is your Doc for Subcision? I had subcision done by Dr.Rappaport
in NJ for $1300. I did my second subcision on Nov ,2002. I saw 50% -60%
improvement after the second. Thanks!

I've heard several positive feedbacks on Dr. Rappaport. I'm very happy for the results you're getting.
I'm in Seattle and I saw Dr. Gilbert. He was more aggresive this time so I'm really anticipating the results. Will you be doing any of the collagen stimulating lasers (N-lite etc.) ? I will keep everyone posted. Take Care.

I was going to use Dr. Rapaport, but made an appointment with Kaminer instead as he is closer. I may cancel that appointment, however, and try needling first. I'll likely go to Kaminer after the new year (at least for a consultation) regardless of how the needling works out. I am glad you got some results from your subcision. They both sound like worthwhile treatments. Beth
