By the time you buy the machine and get trained on how to use it, you could have had it done by a professional who knows what they are doing.

I think Frank said to wait 1 month in between needling and 1 month before or after chemical peels to do it? Is that right?

anyway, if i ever consider getting my scars (the craters) operated on, i would consider subcision as an option, reject it then consider how far the technology's gotten in the needle abrasion dept...
hmmm. needle abrasion. heres what i know about it. it attempts to improve a large indented scar in a way that subcision does. needle abrasion/subcision allegedly works best for the kind of indented scar in which the collagen layer in the skin is gone and the two adjacent layers are stuck together. in subcision, a surgeon uses a knife to attempt to separate the two layers in the hope that collagen can start forming again. needle abrasion attempts to seaprate the two layers without inserting a knife. subcision is risky because the doctor probably cant identify a layer of collagen even if he sees it--most dermatologists dont perform this operation and that could be why. chances of success in needle abrasion are probably even lower than in subcision because all you are doing is poking a needle into your face. you are left with the impression that the puffiness you see (hey, many of you have made this claim) is collagen formation when its most likely just the blood (you said you bled, didnt you?) .
Should I get to my point?
hm...When it comes time that I want to consider getting my scars fixed surgically, I will do some research (probably just read some of your testimonials) and decide if "they" have learned why needle abrasion isnt working now, and if "they" have firgured out a way to get that needle down to the relevant layers of skin and to separate them so that collgen can start growing there again...
Assumptions made: indentations occur because collagen is prevented from growing by surrounding layers of skin that are stuck together.

That's odd you should ask that Narcisses. I live in Dallas, TX but I actually have info for someone in Australia. The website is http://www.hovansgroup.com/
Now maybe you can do me a favor and find someone who needles in Texas.

Hello, Colin - I am also in Texas. Just found a permanent makeup artist who is familiar with needling. She's in the DFW area.
http://www.permanent-makeup-by-renee.com/
I am going to work with Renee and give needling a try, I hope within the next couple of weeks - depends on her schedule.
My history: I am 44, did one round of accutane when it FIRST came out years ago - it got rid of the cystic acne for about 5 years. I did a second round and have had no further problems with active cysts.
I have various types of scars on my face - primarily cheeks and chin. These scars are 20 plus years old, and I am beginning to see some lines forming around my eyes and some pretty unattractive lines have developed on my forehead, so I know my body's collagen production ability is decreasing.
I have not had any procedures at all for scar removal, ever. I had not used any topicals for scar removal until I began using the copper peptides (the acne scar treatment kit) from Skin Biology about two weeks ago - no improvement as yet, which I believe is to be expected in light of my age, and the age of the scarring.
I will be posting progress notes and, if I can muster the courage, progress photos.
Regards,
ShyOne

ShyOne,
Thanks for the info! Have you talked with her yet? I wonder how many needling sessions she has done and what the results were? I just sent her a message on her website and now waiting for her response. Let me know how things go with your treatment.

Yes- if you are in Sydney.
Go here

Also check http://www.acneclear.co.nz/order.shtml.
I've just received one of their dermarollers- haven't used it yet. I want to follow Meet Pete's use of it with Retin-A.
Good luck

I just called Renee and made a consultation appointment for needling. She actually spent some time on the phone with me to explain some things. Very nice person and she is Asian and deals with quite a number of Asians so she understands my skin type and possibly any hyperpigmentation related to it. Let me know how your experience goes.

What is the cost of a session, abouts?

I think most of the doctors or derms (and many don't do needling) use the Roll-CIT and charge an arm and a leg to do so. Most of them look at tattoo guns like medieval tools but these seem to work the best. You might want to try to find a permanent makeup artist. I imagine they understand better than most doctors what needling does to the skin and the reaction to certain skin types. They typically charge much less too and needling takes several sessions for most scars. Good luck.

Hi, Vanguard. I've located two permanent makeup artists in the general Houston area for needling, but no dermatologists or plastic surgeons.
If you are interested in their contact info, let me know - I would be happy to provide it via PM.

One a few years ago and one only a few weeks ago.
The one i did a few years ago is dodgy. In some angles it looks worse, in some angles it looks better.
The one i did a few weeks ago is either worse or has had no change what so ever.
I am applying a product called 'Scar Serum' to it which contains Cocoa Butter, Vitamin E, Allium Cepa, Shark Liver Oil & Silicone. This might help produce collagen who knows!?
Anyway will keep you all posted, although I am beginning to believe that needling is a bit of a stupid idea now. We will see anyway
I know how you feel when you wake in the morning, you wish your scars would just disapear. But they don't. I feel your anger and depression, and i pray that we can all get through this together in life.

I don't know if you want to apply any "scar serum" to an indented scar, especially silicon based. These type of scar serums are typically for raised scars and slowly dissolve certain collagen types. So you might be making the situation worse especially since the needled holes might be allowing the serum to seep to the collagen underneath the scar.

How many of you have tried this at home or with the tattoo needle, and how much success have you seen with it?
