I had my very FIRST derm. appt. last week, and my derm. prescribed this regime:

100mg Minocycline (2 times a day)
Differin (apply at night)

Has anyone else been on Minocycline? How long did it take to start seeing results?

I was put on it at least 10 times over the last 20 years. you will probably begin to see REAL results no earlier than 4 weeks and no later than 6 weeks. By 8 weeks you should see a noticeable difference. If you're not clearing by that point, you probably need something stronger like accutane.

i saw results in the first week! it was so awesome. now i don't really have to take it every day...just when i pick at my face (which i know i shouldn't do) so that the spots don't become infected...

it may take you a bit longer than a week if your acne was worse than mine...mine was very mild.

Mino. should start to work right away esp. on surface inflamation and eruptions. The mino. will continue to work on the acne process that is going on deeper in the skin since it takes 14-30 days for an eruption to surface. The Differin works deeper in the skin as well and it takes up to two months to make a noticable difference. You are on meds that can make you sun sensitive so you must use sunscreen if you are going to be outdoors for any length of time. Also, you are on a fair amount of mino., so watch out for yeast problems both in your gut and your private areas. The mino can kill good bacteria and the acne causers, so maybe consider probiotic supplements that help help control yeast overgrowth.

Well again eveyone is different, as u can see it was different for eveyone that posted.

I took it for 4 months, it worked well, but i was not gonna take it all my like and switched to accutane. The minocin started within the first week, no new pimples came up, but it did take about a month for all the current ones to dry up and for the spots to fade. As well i used differin, gel that helped speed things up.

i was on minocin on and off for 4/5 years. It worked at first..took about a month to notice it but just be warned...its only a temporary thing. My body became immune to it and im now on accutane having had the worst breakout ever.
If you're on it for a long time, maybe switch to another one after 6 months or a year like oxytet or something.. you're derm'll know about it all though id imagine, my doctor didnt but i dont knw how he got trhough med school.

I'm also on mino and differin. My first 5 weeks were a nightmare, but I stuck with it and now I'm in my 9th week and I'm about 98% clear and haven't really had a single new zit in the last 2 weeks. But I got my best results by using a lot of differin on my face. I used cetephil moisturizing lotion quite a bit also so that I not really dry at all. Make sure you stay on it for at least 8-12 weeks to decide whether or not it is working! This is very important because so many people quit after like 4 weeks. Yes, it will make acne worse in the beginning, but it's just sort of flushing it out. So stick with it! biggrin.gif

my derm wanted me to take 200mg a day but it really made me too dizzy. I was only taking 100mg a day. i'm a fairly small girl, though, (about 100lbs) so if you're a guy or a bigger girl you might be able to take 200mg a day without the dizziness...

Differin is the brand name for adapalene gel. You need a doctor to prescribe it. Minocycline is the generic name for this antibiotic.100 mgs is a pretty standard dose. Some derms do go higher, but the risk of side effects can go up too.If you use Differin, a few items you need to keep in mind. Differin needs to be applied to clean bare completely dry skin. You shouldn't use it with BP at the same time. Most people use BP in the am and Differin at night. And, it is a retinoid, so you should use sunscreen daily to avoid hyperpigmentation. Mino can make you more sun sensitive, so the same sunscreen rules apply.

Minocycline worked great for me. I was put on that and retin-a. I'm not sure when i first started seeing the results but all i know is that my daily breakouts ended. Differin is really good too.

Mino also worked awesome for me to clear up mild-moderate acne on my face and extensive acne on my back/chest area. Got me 100% clear within a month or 2 if I remember right. Really amazing stuff! Only downside for me however and as it appears for a lot of people is that once your prescription runs out, the acne will return just as bad if not worse than before. So if its short term results you want then you wont be disappointed. Also I was put on mino 3 times maybe and this last time I was 100% clear on my chest/back but still got a cyst or 2 on my face every so often so the effictiveness declines with every treatment. So IMO you should go back to the derm and ask for low dose accutane because theres a real good chance your acne will come back on mino.

hey guys,

I've been on the regimen for like 2 1/2 weeks and I'm like sufferring from the worst breakout in a while. Its totally pissing me off since ive been takin vitamins and drink at least two tall smoothie glasses a day for the past 2 months and been eating healthy for the most part.

I've just about 99% made up my mind to go see the local doc tomorrow and get me a prescription for generic Minocycline HCI. The last time I took any antibiotics for acne was early jan thru like the end of feb and it worked great. but then i ran out and the acne slowly crept back.

oh 1 question for you guys....should i take probiotics at the same time im taking antibiotics?

another thing...
my friend, who has moderate to semi-severe acne, told me his mom bought him this bottle...a green liquid...(requiring refridgeration after opening)...and he would mix it in with water or something and it would cleanse out his system...well he said it totally helped him clear his face up...stating he got compliments for his face from the results....but his acne came back after he ran out of the stuff....I'm going to the same store where his mom bought it from and find out what the heck it was...so i'll be sure to post back what it was his mom had bought him. (damn i sound desperate...haha)

Yeh i'm on 4 50mg tablets a day and it made me full dizzy at first and got head-aches, but i drank lots of water and its all good. Yeh mino has prevented new zits from appearing but screw that i'm, going on accutane i'd rather nuke my moderate (now mild thanks to mino) acne. So yeh i hope my initial breakout for accutane is low, because of the mino.
