Hi all, I am new here to acne.org but have checked out the site for quite some time now. I would like to start off with my acne story. I started getting small pustules under my nose when i was about 14 years old in 8th grade. It wasn't even that bad now that i look back, but i really freaked out back then. Right away i started using just plain hand soap which made it a little worse, until my sister told me to wash my face every night with a cleanser. So i went out and bought cetaphil daily face wash for my face which kept it under control for about a year. Then, freshman year came high school football and basketball, along with even more acne. I noticed it started spreading around to my chin and the cheek area around my mouth started getting cysts. I was freaking out at that point and convinced my mom to take me to a dermatoligist. When i went there, they gave me a regimen with 10% bp and two types of moustirizers, one for at night and one for in the morning. I never really looked at the ingredients of these moisturizers but recently i noticed they contain 2.5 % salysic acid. After i got this regimen my acne got a little better and a little worse, it went week by week. Then the one day came where i made the stupidest decision of my life. I looked in the mirror and saw how greasy my face was so i told myself "I'm going to stop moisturizing because my face is so oily, i'm sure that 10% bp will dry it all up." Wow was i stupid. Right away actually my acne got better, but within 1 month it literally looked like someone had splatter painted around my mouth and the cheek area around my mouth. I still have some hyperpigmentation marks on my cheeks from that decision. I would say i stopped moisturizing in december and started again in march when i realized i needed to moisturize to keep from drying out. When i started moisturizing again, my face gradually got better over the months, but it seems like i can never get over that hump of getting rid of the pustules and redness under my nose and my chin. Anyways, last week I went on the greatest trip of my life in pittsburgh, PA. Unfortunately, being from north dakota, our group had to take a bus and i did not have a chance to wash my face for almost two whole days. Never in my life have i broken out so bad. I couldn't even look in the mirror while i was there because i didn't want to shatter my confidence. I just got home two days ago, and when i looked in the mirror for the first time in a week, i almost cried it was so bad. My acne is probably the worst it has been as of now. Like I said, i have seen acne.org before and have always thought the regimen would be good to try. I have now turned to acne.org for help and am wondering about some things.

1. I have no acne around my jawline or my cheeks (just some hyperpigmentation which will fade) do i have to spread the regimen on those areas if they are free of breakouts?

2. I have read that your face needs to become accustomed to bp before it starts to work, do you think my face is already used to it based on my story about using 10% bp?

3. I break out under my nose with a new pimple(s) almost every single day. Will the regimen make me stop breaking out so bad there?

I really need help guys, i have a summer camp coming up in 2 months where, lets say i have lots of female friends that like seeing me. If i start now could i be clear by then? I am to the point where i am fine with some hyperpigmentation on my cheeks, i just want to get rid of the millions of pustules under my nose and on my cheeks near my nose. Seriously, any help will be greatly appreciated. Benjamin Schuler

I have a picture attached also. I am the tall fellow to the left with the beatles shirt on.

You can usually use the sunscreen as a moisturizer, you don't wanna put on too much product and clog your pores. Just make sure it's definitely non-comedogenic. Which sunscreen did you order if you don't mind me asking?

Dan's Regimen didn't work for me but there were a lot more factors in my life that I think played a bigger role. I think it should work for you and you should be pretty clear after those 2 months, though your face might be tight and very dry. I would say spot treat with the BP instead of applying to your entire face if it becomes to red or itchy. It'll be a long 2 months but it's worth it I suppose.

Your acne doesn't look too bad, you shouldn't have a problem with the ladies :P

The sunscreen my mom ordered from the dermatoligist. It says DFP essentials and it's oil-free moisturizing spf 46 cream with sodium hyaluronate and vitamin e. The active ingredients are zinc oxide 9% and octinoxate 7.5%. I sure hope his regimen works for me. I think i am going to try it. I really have nothing to lose under my nose and around my mouth because it is already red as can be. By spot treating you mean just putting the bp in the affected areas right? Haha thank you, it looks better from afar. Alot of my exes will be there so i need to look good Posted Image

I've no history of BP or anything so sorry can't help you on that front....but I'm used to the battle of acne directly around the mouth. What I've been doing is using baking soda as toothpaste and after about two weeks it's definitely improving my skin. My skin is more natural now and I breakout less often. So maybe it's worth a try?? Just plain baking soda as 'toothpaste'. Oh and one other consideration (no offense/hate) but maybe get a new hairstyle. Like shorter? It might not affect you but if it does it'd be a shame not to eliminate that trigger. Look up on hair and dead skin cells and other shit from hair causing breakouts. I mean no disrespect btw haha. Alright dude peace!

Yeah, just applying it the affected areas. Good luck, let me know how the regimen works for you. Maybe I'll give it a shot again someday. It just takes so much time, effort, and patience.
