Like all peroxide's, it can bleach certain hair types and fabrics. It's not to be played with. It's a strong chemical.
You will need to experiment with your skin to see how much Benzoyl P. you can handle. For anyone, I would suggest starting off with half a finger length because it's not too much and it's not too little. It just allows for a nice thin, but even coverage. If you skin becomes excessively dry and irritated within a couple of days, I would suggest to lower the dosage, but if It's been a couple of weeks and your skin seems to be coping well, you may want to up the dosage to a full finger length.
The more Benzoyl P. you use, the greater the effect it has on acne, as it can penetrate deeper in to the skin. However, using too much too quickly can have the opposite of a greater effect. Start slowly and build up from there is the general rule of thumb.

From my experience, when i used bp to prevent acne... my skin got flaky/dry and i started with a little amount and the most i have ever used was 1/4 finger lenght all over my face. It was a bad experience for me.
I guess it depends on each individual?

If you have tons of breakouts, don't put second layers on every single one - not good!!!

what happened if you put second layers on your breakouts? Did it flake/dry a lot? or did it become irritated?
I agree that applying a little is better than a lot

I had pretty bad acne and at first I put too much to the point I couldn't smile or I would flake everywhere. I then stopped putting so much and I could smile! I did notice my acne was healing very fast even when I wasn't over-doing it and putting only small appropriate amounts throughout my face.
Now I have acne on one area strangly on my cheek. I do tend to put two layers only there but my skin is just bad there, the pimples are red and seem irritated and it hasn't really been working. I would conclude more is actually worse because it clogs the pores and probably slows down healing rather than aid it. Stick to only one layer and don't over do it, it is a waste. I know it is tempting to just put on a bunch thinking it'll work faster but that is very wrong.

BP cannot cause acne. However, BP can have some pretty irritating side affects ... dryness/redness/itching. So it's definitely up to the individual how much BP they use....the more the better as far as acne is concerned, but at some point you will cross a line where the decrease in acne is offset by the new problem ( irritation and dryness the BP is causing).
