So I've passed my third month using the acne.org regimen and it has yielded some great results. My question is should I stop using the regimen? The thing is, I still get the occasional zit but it's well under control atm. I have a lot of dark + red spots left from my previous acne. There are no scars as far as I can tell; just red and dark spots with around 4 pimples around my face. I'm running out of BP but still have some cleanser + moisturizer left. I was thinking of using only AHA at night while trying to remove these spots on my face, and in the morning I would use Camellia oil + moisturizer. Will this help with the spots around my face? I don't want to continue purchasing the acne.org products because I haven't seen any improvement for 3 weeks. It seems like the 3 step regimen isn't doing my skin any good.

I'm not completely satisfied with the results of the DKR but I cannot complain too much since it's a huge improvement from 6 months ago.

Please advise on what I should do.

usually after 3 months you are about as clear as you are gonna get on DKR. but for some it takes as long as 6 months. personally, i was 95% clear after just one month, and have stayed that way ever since. i still get occasional zits. never big ones like i use to get, but i will usually have one small one somewhere on my face at all times, which honestly is fine with me because just one tiny zit is not even noticeable, especially compared to how i use to be

anyway, i have recently been in the process of weening off the regimen. im doing this because, like you, ive been doing the regimen religiously for several months, but since the first month i havent really seen any more improvement other than with the dryness. i am pretty happy with my skin at 95% clear, and 100% clear just isnt gonna happen for me i dont think. otherwise it would have by now.

what i have been doing for the past week and a half is in the mornings im still cleansing and moisturizing like normal, but when i am at the bp step i am only using just my finger tip of bp, rather than a whole finger length. at night i am still doing the full regimen. i am trying to ween off of the regimen slowly, because ive heard that just stopping cold turkey can be rough for people and cause breakouts. but people who stop slowly usually stay clear. in another week or so im going to stop bp completely in the morning, but still do the full regimen at night. then after a couple weeks of that, if i am still clear, i will start reducing bp at night until i am down to nothing other than regular spot treating which is unavoidable for anyone with acne, whether you are on the regimen or not.

i am going to continue cleansing and moisturizing like dan suggests though, even after i am done with bp. obviously the end goal is to be able to just wash my face in the shower in the mornings like a normal person, maybe moisturize a little if i am dry sometimes, and not need to do anything at night. but from what i have gathered the key is to stay on the regimen until you are clear (or as clear as you are gonna get, as in your's and my cases) and then very slowly start reducing the amount of bp you use until it is down to nothing, then start cancelling out the other steps until you are where you wanna be.

the key to this is: if you start breaking out somewhere along the road of quitting the DKR, you likely need to go back to doing it as directed by dan, twice a day, for another month or so then try slowly quitting again. you skin will stop having acne when it is ready. the regimen just helps prevent acne symptoms.

i would suggest you give this a shot. if you are happy with your skin now (occasional zit but nothing bad) and you have not seen improvement for the past 3 weeks, you may be as good as you are gonna get. but make sure you do it as i have described. this is what everyone who has slowly quit the DKR successfully has done. eliminate a little bit of bp, do that for a couple weeks, then eliminate a little bit more, do it a couple weeks, and so on. ive been trying to post regularly on what im doing to quit the DKR and how it is working for me so you can follow along with what im doing if you need to.

good luck.
