Over the last couple of days I've looked over quite a few topics in this section, and noticed a few in particular; like someone trying to force indifference to their acne, or the 'how do you feel about our acne today?' thread.

Well, I wanted to bring a bit more positivity to the mix, not just tolerance. Which leads me to my question: what sort of things in your daily life, or even in that rare occasion when everything lines up make you feel GOOD about yourself despite your acne issues?

I recently got a haircut, from shoulder length to something far, far shorter. Much shorter than I had wanted. Instead of fretting I decided to own the short hairstyle, something I've never felt comfortable with before, and I'm actually really pleased with it now. So much so that my spirits have been lifted.

At the moment I'm not thinking "Ugh, look how bad my acne is", but rather "Hey, that's a great head of hair you've got there, me". :)

What makes me feel good is knowing that the things I have to worry about are nothing more than first world problems. Posted Image

Just listening to my favourite bands makes a world of difference to me, stuff that is full of energy and makes me just forget about my bad skin. Sometimes its as soon as I get home, or on the bus or even sometimes when I just lay on my bed and just listen for a good while. It clears my head, really picks me up on occasions and it always makes me feel happy.

I get what you mean with the haircut thing also, I remember back last summer I was debating whether to cut my hair into a mohawk (I'd had a sort-of mohawk before, but nothing like a proper one Posted Image). In the end I said 'f*ck it' and did it. I loved it and got a lot of nice comments about it too (I got some 'what have you done!?' type of comments too but they were all in good fun),

It made me feel better about myself for taking a risk for once rather than worrying what other people thought 24/7 - I've said it before and I'll say it again, people care a lot less than we think they do! I'd also say thinking about the summer makes me feel good - where I can relax and chill out with my family and friends rather than stress over college and all sorts of other things that bring us down.

Comedy in general. I can never be in such a mood, that a good joke or a funny instance can't make me laugh. Coming in a close second would be anime and then training my body

Dancing, making people laugh, making soup, running and sweating in the biting cold, coffee with friends.

My two bitches are an endless source of entertainment, comfort and encouragement. Training them, playing with them, laying on the couch watching a movie with them. Those are probably my favorite activities.

I work with the general public, which can be.... challenging. But I am really fucking good at my job and I've built an excellent reputation for myself.

My man. He just loves me. And he takes care of me. And he's nice to my family.

Art is your emotions flowing in a river of imagination :)
That's what makes me content with myself and allows me to forget about my awful skin disorder.

I love music and my friends. I like just reading a book, the simple things.. I don't ask for much to be honest. I also feel good when people tell me that I'm physically beautiful or pretty even though my face has scars. Of course there might not be credibility to their compliments but I feel good nonetheless.

Not to diminish your perspective, because if those things truly make you happy then so be it, but all of those are things I would specifically associate with avoiding the acne issue, rather than pushing forward or finding personal happiness despite it. I say this because I am all too familiar with using those three things as mechanisms of escapism.

I eat when I am bored, I'm often bored because acne has played a detrimental role in me living my life. I sleep to not be awake, so that I do not have to cope with the harshness of reality. I use the Internet because without a life what else can I do? It goes without saying that all three of those things have legitimate uses, but from the frank and minimalist tone of your message it seems as if you may be using them in similar or identical ways as I have at times.

If that's the case I feel the need to ask the question of you again: what makes you happy in spite of acne? :)

There's an ongoing topic about not being able to accept compliments, but I for one feel that given the right circumstances a compliment can be a very positive thing. I recall a semi-recent compliment from a very beautiful and accomplished young woman at a function I was attending. She had no reason to give it given the context of the event, and made the remark to someone I knew rather than directly to me. I felt those two factors legitimized it, and gave me a particularly high confidence boost!
