Hey everyone,

Thanks for taking the time to click and read on this post. I would really love to hear whatever feedback you may have. I'm 17 years old, male, and I went on Accutane about a year ago when my acne was at its worst. I was on accutane at 70mg a day for 7 months total. I did experience an initial breakout but nothing I wasn't use to as I have had acne since around 13 years old. The worse part for me though was the dryness, I live by the beach and I love to surf. But after about two months on accutane, simply encountering salt water would sting horribly all over my body. Nonetheless, back on track, after my 7 month course I was completely clear. I was ecstatic. I enjoyed this lovely freedom for about 6 months, then boom, acne. It came back with a vengeance. Now no longer on my forehead, nose, or chin, but mainly on my cheeks, the acne came in full force. Thanksgiving of this year was horrible, yet not as bad as it was before. I cleared up most of the cysts but was left with some horrible red marks, what seemed to be the first red marks I ever really had, probably because red marks are so severe on the cheeks, where I had never before had acne. Right now, I have a large amount of red marks on both my cheeks about three good size cysts, a relatively clear forehead, two painful ones on my lips, and a big one on my jawline, and probably countless little ones, but those pale in comparison. Now I went to my dermatologist today and got prescribed my second run of acne. I had researched a lot about possibly going on a low dosage as the side effects for me were quite bad, and honestly right now my acne is nothing like it was two years ago. I wanted to know what everyone though of low dose accutane, 20mg a day, and whether or not that would be effective in clearing my acne by college time (late august) of this year. or should I go with 60mg a day for a shorter period of time. Also, not going through the initial breakout would be great, which is why I was thinking it could maybe be a good idea to build up to a higher dosage, say start with 20mg for a month, then 40mg the next month and see what happens. Please, please, please let me know what you think I should do. Thanks a million. I love this website. You're all so helpful, I can't stress that enough.

Sincerely,
Matt

it's weird, i dont know if your the same person but i made a reply to a similar question. But its says u posted this yesterday....anyway. I am taking accutane, first time, every monday and thursday. I take 40mg of claravis, a generic. It has only been 1 month so i can only tell you what has happend in that time frame. I am still breaking out, but not as much as of lately. Hopefully that is a good thing. Side effects are so far minimal. All it is, is dry lips and very dry skin. Nothing else, so far. I too live by the beach in los angeles county, and I know my skin would sting too. I guess that would be another side effect. If u have any questions just message me or repost on this. I am new to this, so im not sure how everything works.
