My dermatologist suggested the OTC body wash (Panoxly) and I recently bought a Panoxly bar (10%) and have used it TWICE.

The first time nothing (obviously). The second time caused wherever I used it (back, shoulders, chest) to become VERY itchy and red in about all areas.

Is this an allergic reaction? Or should I do it every other day? Is the dosage too high?

I have severe back/shoulder acne and am completely out of drugs to try (and I do NOT want to go on Accutane). I've tried ProActiv before and it gave me a similar response (redness, etc). - I know ProActiv uses Benxoly Peroxide as well...

Please help! - PS: The absolute ONLY drug I have tried that worked wonders was Bactrim (Trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole), but with use I found that I am apparently allergic to sulfa...so if there are any drugs like it (not with sulfa)...

Personally I think that starting out on 10% is far too high! With BP you need to at least work your way up. I was using Panoxl 2.5% BP cream and found this too be more than effective . You will always expect redness at the start of using BP ... once your skin adjusts you will be fine!

And yes the Panoxyl 10% is a high concentration so it's very common that you are experiencing itchiness and redness. I use panoxyl 10% as well for my back and shoulders. It becomes extremely itchy but it works, it cleared my back within 2 weeks
I'm currently on it because it would appear that during this time of weather (Winter) I tend to breakout more then usual.
However, I think you should stick to it but if you find the itchiness to bother you a lot then I would reduce it to every other day. Eventually once your skin adapts to the concentration it won't bother you as much
