Hey guys, I am a new member here, ran around on Google and found this informative forum. So I have had mild cystic acne on my chin and cheeks for over a year now, I am now 20 and it began when I was around 18, when I first started college, my acne scars show for this. I have tried almost all the OTC acne products including ProActiv, 10% BP creams, and such with no effect. Recently my doctor prescribed me Clindamycin 1% and BP 5% for treatment, my first time ever seeing a doctor for acne, I have used it for almost two weeks now, and within the first day I have used it I began to notice results, within the first week almost all my acne has cleared up. But I continued using it, even though I am clear. Now it has been almost two weeks, and I am thinking of getting off of it, because this may have cured my acne.. What do you guys think? And what are your opinions? This is my first time with this type of prescribed treatment. Also, the doctor gave me a 2 month prescription.

Congrats on a quick recovery! Chances are though, you are not cured. Acne for most of us can only be managed (via topicals, diet, pills, etc) and chances are that if you get off of this regimen, your acne will come back.

I would definitely consult with your derm before you make the decision to quit your regimen.

Thanks for the support and feedback. I was actually going to wait another 2 weeks or so, one month from when the doctor prescribed it to go in for a check up and see how it goes. But for now, should I start slowly getting off of it? Like going to once a day, and then once every other day and such? Or just continue on?

Hi Flameboy, congrats on getting clear so quickly, that must be a great feeling. I agree with Sasch, in that its unlikely you're 'cured' of acne, its just being managed at the moment.

As for reducing your treatment, there is no harm in trying it so long as you're prepared for a breakout. I follow Dan's regimen and got completely clear in 3 months, and now I only apply BP once a day with no ill effects, so its worth a try. Good luck!
