I wanted to come on here and tell my story to hopefully get some feedback.

Acne started at 17, thereafter I went through a year of dermatologist visits being given everything under the sun until finally I got to Accutane. I finished one treatment and the acne came back. I went on it again, this time with double dosage and here I am now 7 months off treatment #2 and its back once again. It's very frustrating when you subject yourself to the pains that is Accutane TWICE and it doesnt work. I am 21 years old now and don't think I can handle going back on Accutane for a third time, I have breakouts only on my neck where my facial hair has yet to fully develop whereas the past few years the acne was more on my cheeks.

Am I completely wrong to think it will just run its course and ill be acne free in the somewhat near future?

It seems now that my acne is related to my facial hair but I cant find any information on it. Has anyone had a similar experience? Thanks for any help on this.

  • Interests:I lived with acne for years. It was to the point that makeup wasn't helping. Every acne problem is different. Well, I learned that my acne is caused by my skin flaking and clogging pores. Along with oil...... so I decided to exfoliate my skin almost everyday.

I use baking soda mixed with my facial cleanser. After I'm done I apply Dr thayers witch hazel. If u have acne medication or spot cream. Use it. Of course my face is dry. Well I use burts bees night cream. If I don't use moisturizer, my face would look very dry. Oh the witch hazel was for imflammed pimples, redness, and large pores. I have no more flaky skin, redness, and NO MORE PIMPLES! !!!!

What do u mean? When u shave u break out?

Personally I wouldn't let it run its coarse because ur skin may get damaged. I do know. my husband only get his hair cut at the barber shop because he will break out right on his neck if he shave himself.

If you only break out where your facial hair is, I think you need to look at what products you are using there: Harsh aftershave? Gels? Razor burn?
I don't think you should do a third round of Accutane, especially if you only have breakouts in one area and it isn't severe.

I'm sorry, I'm a girl so I don't have a problem like this, but my boyfriend has a lot of facial hair, and I mostly see breakouts around his beard. Possibly you have inflamed hair folicles.
Shaving can be tough on skin too, but leaving the hair there can cause extra oil on the face, so it seems to be a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" sort of situation.

I'm sure your dermatologist has more information for you, I'd hope.
