Hi, This is my first post here... so I hope this is the appropriate section.

I have struggled with acne for years, it runs in the family and genetics.
I have tried countless Benzoyl and Salacylic Acid acne OTCs and they have never helpped me.
I was put on accutane 2 years ago and it did wonders.
It saved my skin from massive ammounts of scaring, though there is still lite scaring.
But after treatment I still have remaining red spots and I still have a significant ammount of pimples.
The acne still remains today and is still noticable, painful, and self-confidence killing.

Stuff that has failed:
  • Benzoyl Peroxide, All %s, all forms.
  • SA, all percents, all forms. (makes acne worse)
  • Glycolic, Lotion, peel.
  • RentinA, Rx gel.
  • Anti-Biotics, all classes.
  • HydroCortosone
  • Multiple RX topicals.
  • Sunscreen, (SPFs)
  • Homeopathic remedies.
  • Accutane, Worked, just not as much as I would have l liked.
  • Many more that I am unable to think of right now. I have tried everything I could I find.
Does anyone have any advice on what I should do/try next?

Thank you. :]

It seems like most veterans here end up eating a really healthy diet. I've been trying to clear my skin with supplements, but I may have to improve my diet as well. A lot of people got clear by doing things like eating a low glycemic load diet, avoiding things like wheat, dairy, refined sugar, starches, vegetable oils, etc, and by eating a lot of vegetables and healthy fats like extra virgin olive oil.

You should realize that acne is the result of an internal problem. Topicals won't get you anywhere. You will save yourself a lot of time searching if you just try to clear your skin with healthy habits. I admit I don't know the exact cause of acne. Right now I'm thinking it has something to do with with inflammatory foods and insulin resistance.

I hope this points you in the right direction, and I hope I will follow my own advice.

Try to cut out grains, dairy, wheat, gluten. soy, eggs, corn, processed food, sugar, hydronated vegetable oils, and iodine for 2 months. Maybe it's your diet that is causing tha acne.

Thank you both for the replies.
I am an extrememly picky vegan and have been for years now, so I really don't eat any of that stuff and haven't for a while.

I should go see a dermatologist then. Any idea what would be causing it interally?
I did't respond to the antibiotic treatments before, are there other internal rx medicine that they can try?

i think back to a derm, sometimes it is just the right combo you are missing..like trying 3-4 things you were doing before all together.. plus have you ever gone to a med spa? I am doing micropeels and having success... I think diet can help but wont cure , so it should be a part of what you to next , but not the sole solution.. you can look at my signature for my diet and topical routine..just dont give up!

its surprising the you have such bad acne being a vegan..
hmmm accutane worked but still have acne after the session.. you already eat healthy..
-are you male or female? antibiotics kill good and bad bacteria in your body. which is a good lead on leaky gut candida and other diseases caused by antibiotics. If youre female you may have a good possibility to be a candidate of candida. probiotics and live cultures often help these cases.
-If youre male. than maybe your DHT hormones are raging. try not masturbating or sex for a full month. This is an experiment made to physically control male hormones.
-lets see what else. you you eat alot of fructose fruit? this could also add to candida and or be raging your blood surgar insulin levels. some people have claimed that eating 500mg of cinnamon on top of every meal of food controls insulin sensativitiy.
-last but not least my favorite. Accutane~this drug is made to shrink sebaceus glands. therefore cutting off the sebum production completely. this is great for acne to stop forming. how ever, acne is also entitled "Bacteria infection" unfortunate accutane does nothing for bacteria all over your face. People try to control this problem by sing BP SA and other harsh chemicals that claim to be "gentle on the skin yet powerful at killing bacteria" they maybe be good at klling some bacteria but what they are even better at is irritating the skin. Being that all these chemicals are alkaline (on the PH scale 1-acidic 7-neutral 8+alkaline) alkaline products strip the acid mantle. The acid mantle is the most importan role in fighting acne. its job is to have a protective layer of skin, epidermis lipids, made up of, oil and sweat, are actually slightly acidic(PH5.5-6) and this acidic skins job is to fight off unwanted bacteria on the face. SO with this said stripping the acid mantle with these cleansers irritates the acne and when acne is irritated everyone knows its spreads even more and people tend to think the cleansers arent working and apply more more often. stripping away their only hope of acne survival!! What do we learn from this. BUY a cleanse that is PH balanced around 4-6 that kills bacteria. i hope some of the information ive given you helps you control your acne!
Good luck! Posted Image

Since you are a vegan it's possible that you are deficient in some nutrients that you can only get from meat.

No I was not implying you should go to a dermatologist and get an oral prescription. Some dermatologists won't admit or don't know about the diet and acne connection. All they do is prescribe things that are very bad for you overall, even if they do help your skin. I think every prescription is bad for you, and you should not use them unless it's necessary.

Like I said before, I'm thinking acne could be influenced by insulin resistance and inflammatory foods, or maybe you have some kind of digestive problem or food intolerance. Any of those could mess up your hormones and make the hormones bind to oil glands and then cause a pimple. I'm pretty sure that hormones binding to oil glands is one of the last stages of acne, and it leads to increased sebum production which blocks the pores and lets bacteria grow in the pore. The question is what causes hormones to bind to the oil glands instead of doing something else.

That's pretty much all I know, I should direct you to someone who knows much more then I do: http://www.acne.org/...__fromsearch__1 She is pretty much the expert on holistic health.
