my body mass is around 90kg and i drink 40mg per day.
I have not been drinking alcohol since i have started with R, it means 3 months.
But, now I am really scared becuase on new years eve I drank around 0.5l of beer, 0.5l of wine, and around 0.2l of jack daniels.
will something awful happen to me? eusa_doh.gif
and will it be written in my blood test in one week because i dont want my parents to find out about this.

Hey, new here!

Right, I'm on accutane now, I'm 17, male, I'm on 5mg a day for 1st month, then 10mg a day, then 20mg for a month, then for the rest 40mg a day till I finish - 16 weeks. So ...

I don't drink, only when I'm at a party or social event. Now, I'll be on 10mg a day (almost finish 2nd month) when my friend as his birthday bash at his house where everyone will get (I'll put this nicely) HAMMERED. Completeley. Drunk out of their arse. Drinking games etc etc etc. It'll get messy.

Will I be okay? Can I drink (I'll have to!) obviously I won't get too bad, but I will most likely get very drunk. However, this will likely be the ONLY time this will happen in my entire 16 week treatment. Honestly, if it was just a party I'd say no and make something up, but the fact is he's my best mate, it's his birthday, and I just want to have fun!

Advice, please? Nice to be here, and hope everyone gets rid of their acne! lol. wink.gif

Mate ur puttin the pussy on a pedastal.. you needa calm down n just have a drink with ur boys without worryin about this crap. u sound like a girl with all ur jibbajabba will it hurt me stuff. go get pissed as biggrin.gif

I think this is a VERY bad idea. The strain your liver is under is pretty bad, and it doesn't need more interferrence from alcohol.

Please don't do massive drinking sessions while on Accutane. Limit yourself out a bit.

I did a few big drinking times with my friends while on Accutane and I had a very, very bad headache the next day and felt pretty ill. I stopped doing it after this 'cause it wasn't a smart move at all.

That big headache u got is called a HANGOVER dude.. btw, no idiot says "i did a few big drinking times" i dont think ur a smart move at all

what about just not taking the pills on the day that u play on gettin hammered? wouldn't that give ur liver a chance to break down the alcohol, and not worry about the extra stress that the pills put on it?

i'm on a form of the drug called roaccutane, on 60mg a day. Went to hospital for check up and the consultant decided i needed 6 extra weeks (ive just finished 4 months) sad.gif. I had heard that its not good to drink on this drug but this guy was telling me even a few drinks could make me really sick! I'm worried now cos i drank half a crate of bud at the weekend. I didn't even get a headache or throw up or anything but im worried that i could end up with some seriously heavy problem (even though im not a regular drinker.) Any advice, medical or otherwise would be appreciated.

if people are saying that it only affects your liver/stomach well thats wrong. your liver is the organ that breaks down accutane into a usable form so if your also drinking then your liver is doing a lot work to keep up with what your giving to it. the effects may not be as noticeable in others when drinking and taking accutane at the same time but it definitely does to some extent.

My friend was on 30 and 40 mg for his treatment and his told me that every time he knew he would be drinking, he would skip a pill that day. This was not too often, maybe a few times. However, accutane takes several days to get out of your system completely. I would imagine its definitely better to skip that day and avoid blasting your liver with a new dose, but just know its still working on the drug that was in your system before.

I drink myself (at weekend parties) and am just beginning my second month of 40 mg/day. I got wasted last weekend and I definitely got sick, but I doubt it was the accutane. I was also off the pill for two days before because my prescription ran out. My doctor never said anything about drinking to me, but obviously there's warnings about it. My blood tests yesterday were fine.

I think if you're smart about it, don't drink often, maybe skip a pill, and don't get black-out hammered (I certainly don't plan to again on this), then it's not likely anything will happen. Of course, that's not a promise. Everyone's different.

The only thing I've noticed is that alcohol affects me a lot faster on Accutane.

I'm not a big drinker at all - I'll have maybe one drink every few weeks. The other night I was at dinner with my boyfriend, and I forgot about the Accutane and decided to have a Mike's Hard Lemonade.

Halfway through I was definitely buzzed. It would usually take more than one of those to get me buzzed.

So....yeah.

I would recommend not drinking on Accutane. You only have one liver. Be kind to it.

There can be no happiness if the things we believe in are different from the things we do.

I would say that alcohol increases the risk of severe side effects.

Been on Accutane for about a week now. Am 18 and will be off to uni next week and am very worrried about not being able to drink during freshers week. I am not a big drinker at all and only drink occasionally when I go out every so often. Went up to London tonight and ended up having a pint of cider and a shot with some college mates and so have come straight on here when I got back to see what effects that I may get. I'm pretty sensible when i do drink and feel I can limit myself pretty well. Responses on here have kind of cheered me up a bit as at least i know there is not really any problem as long as its not regular or binges, which should suit me fine.

I get drunk about once or twice a month and I either drink 4 Smirnoff ice and have a couple of shots or drink half a flask of vodka. I'm supposed to be starting Accutane at the beginning of February and my derm told me not to drink, but my prom is at the end of May and I don't want to be sober during the parties. I know I shouldn't drink that much, but I'd still like to be drunk at least once a month.

p.s. My friend is on it and she drinks more then me and she's fine

...help?

ITT medical ignorance =P

Seriously, you don't wanna mess with your liver. It can ruin your life. Binge drinking alone is dangerous, but when combined with a liver-intensive medication like Accutane, it's an even worse idea. My dermatologist said 1 or 2 drinks a week would be fine but I'm trying to stay away in general. I'd rather suffer a few months now than permanently ruin my body. But what you put into your body is your responsibility...

Hey fellow accutainers tongue.gif

Im a student who is off to Argentina on exchange for 6 months, and as we all seem to be aware, drinking on accutain is -to quote my derma- 'dangerous' or some shit.
This is not to my liking, as in Argentina there is alot of partaying, drinking, smoking etc.
I am wondering if i should stop tain (i've been on it for about 2 weeks, loving the effects to my skin, disliking minor headaches and chapped lips) or just go have fun for 6 months biggrin.gif
Any helpful pointers? Does alco+tain effect your liver negativly?
On these forums it seems there is alot of questions and not many answers.
Thanks alot!

well i've been on 60mg for 3 months so far with terrible side effects including numerous eye infections and just horrible dry skin, although my acne has basicly disappeared which is a plus woop! the past 3 months ive been avoiding alcohol, which has been really really difficult as to be honest im a bit of a binge drinker, but my doctor put the fear in me... the whole time ive had about 3 pints, a glass of wine and a shot.. but im starting uni this saturday so at my last session i was quite keen to stop treatment possibly to get away from the side effects and so i could just get smashed! but apparently the roaccutane would just remain in my system for a month anyway PLUS coming off it at this stage makes the chance of my acne returning greater so not really worth it... so my doctor suggested coming off roaccutane for a couple of weeks to give my body a break then resuming the treatment, so i stopped as of monday and am planning to get hammered this friday! she advised to drink only 3-4 units but after reading posts on here I think i might be okay to push the boundries a bit, just slightly worried as the whole of freshers week Im pretty sure im gonna want to get shit-faced.... at the end of the day though my body means more to me then one week of getting pissed so ill try and be sort of sensible..

I know it's not safe and all that stuff, but for some reason, I always get super drunk from low amounts of alcohol while being on Roaccutane treatment. Never had any liver problems after drinking, so far. I DO, on the other hand, get some extra new acne in the morning, but it's those little watery-things, that go away after 3 days of not touching them.

My blood tests are all OK, I'm being on a 30mg/day dose and I've been practicing Roaccutane + drinking for almost 3 years right now. If you wonder why that long; I start taking it in the winter, when my sking gets all bad for some reason, cease to take it during the summer, sking becomes flawless during the summer, and the circle repeats itself every year, when school starts, I guess it's the stress that causes acne for me.

And to stay on the topic; If you're going to drink, don't drink too much. Roaccutane is like an amplifier. Let's say 3x. You drink a few shots and you're drunk. You drink 0,75L of 40% vodka.. You wake up in the hospital. So if you're going to drink, don't exaggerate. It's immature and irresponsible.

I have decided not to drink for the 5 months I am on it. I am taking the "better safe than sorry" approach. some people may be fine, others may not. why take the risk. If it is really that big of a deal to stay away from alcohol or only use it in a very moderate fashion, you have bigger problems...you are an alcoholic.
