Hello everyone,

I am a 21 year old (turned 21 two days ago Posted Image ) male student from UK.

A bit of a profile:

I get these annoying either white head or this deep bump thing that lingers on for a while. Not too many of these but they seemed to come up exactly when I didn't want them to - like a date, or night out etc.

When people ask me what kind of skin I have, I don't know what to tell them cause I don't know. It's oily sometimes, it's dry sometimes, but if I am getting acne then that should mean I have oily skin right?

I did not take much care of my skin except for my recent (2 months ish) use of tea tree stuff and clearisil.

Last week I started acne.org treatment (not Dan's products) and bought Panoxyl (2.5% BP).

I use clearisil face wash thing (daily one), Panoxyl, and then moisturiser (this is the problem)

The BP didn't kill my face the first 3 days so I was all jolly and thought this will work, but the last 4-5 days my skin dries up so much! and there are a lot of "burns" near the thin skin areas near eyes and lips.
I was using this Nivea sensitive moisturiser (cream based, very thick) which I stopped cause it just didn't feel safe (after reading all these non comedogenic stuff) so I bought the botanics oil free moisturiser from Boots. Absolutely useless.

My skin dries in just 10 minutes after putting moisturiser and I can see the white layer dry look (I am brown skinned). I bought some aloe vera today and I am going to give that a try.

What moisturiser do I get?! this is really annoying me raising my stress level even more! I can't even smile or laugh cause my lip edges hurt (like being ripped off) my face is so tight, and I can see so many lines on my face since I started BP!

IS THIS NORMAL?? HELP!

PS: I am considering applying the BP just once a day from today. Any inputs?

Yello Posted Image

You must have very dry skin, I would suggest Cetaphil or CeraVe moisturizer.
I do not know if those are available in the UK.

If not, you can try Aveeno Positively Radiant facial moisturizer.
It is soothing and gentle however do not count on it to fade any acne marks.

The thing is I did not have dry skin before BP and I used to use just about any moisturiser that has a nice label.. but I always used moisturiser when I went outside.

I don't want to moisturise with something too oily cause I have witnessed my overnight acne when I used some creams..

Before I used to just get white head but now I seem to get bumps that I can feel deep in my skin.. I am really worried over this, I know sounds silly but it's just really irritating that I can't control my skin.

I have used Panoxyl 5% BP Aquagel.
It was not drying at all, in fact the reason I used it was because of its gentle effect.

As for the bumps deep in your skin, I believe that is mostly hormonal, unless your are using a comedogenic product.

Do you want to try and switch to a 5% BP?
Or perhaps a BP that is prescribed by your physician?

As for the moisturizer, if you not want anything heavy, then how about you try Vichy Normaderm products.
You're a guy, so i do not know if you will try that brand or not.

Also you can try
Vichy Pro Mat
Neutrogena Combination Skin (not very moisturizing though)
Neutrogena Fresh (not very moisturizing though)
Aveeno Clear Complexion
Olay Sensitive Skin Moisturizer (I loved their old formula, the new one is reviewed to be bad)
Clinque Dramatically Different Gel (very good)

These are just some based on my personal experience.

However stop using the nivea product.
They do not make products suited for acne prone skin even if the product claims to be comedogenic.
Nivea was initially for body creams and lotions.

Thanks a lot for your reply!

I just started using BP a week ago, and it dries me out a lot so I don't know if I should up it to 5% yet!

Thanks for your moisturizer list! While I have no problem using "feminine" brands, I don't know if they are strong enough for men skin? (I have read men have thicker skin so need something stronger?)

Thank you once again! Do you know if Neutrogeno oil free moisturiser is good?

I am sitting here thinking about this more and more.. and I am worried BP is doing more harm to me than good.. I have 2-3 pimples/whiteheads sometimes, but I am not sure if that warrants scraping several layers of my skin and burns near my eyes..

I think I ll get off BP for a while and use the other great products mentioned in this site and take car eof the skin (like not touching it etc.) and hopefully that should help me, if not I will get back to BP after 3-4 weeks.

This is what I mean by the dryness near eyes:

I never tried Neutrogena Oil Free, but look up the review online.

As for the drying, lol, i get that too.
It happens right after i wash my face.
It felt tight, and i was scared it would rip.

So i just switched cleansers.
Now i use Clean and Clear Sensitive skin cleanser.

So it might be the cleanser you use.
I'm not sure.

Thanks once again for your reply. I was using the same face wash before BP and it was fine, so I am almost sure it's the BP but to be honest, I think I may have been over applying it. I really don't know what to do :(

But what I do know is that I need a really good moisturiser ASAP.. the one I got now is useless it dried me out before I even went to the store to look at other moisturisers :(
I am sure it's a great moisturiser if I hadn't used BP but not now.

I usually use oily combination moisturiser, but while on BP should I use ones that are meant for dry (or extra dry) skin?
Also, about the burn near my eye, any idea how long it takes to fix? :)

No problemo.
It feels nice to help out someone.

As for the eye thing, it should go away after you get a good moisturizer for your skin.
Its not even that prominent.
