Howdy folks, just thought I'd tell you all where I currently am. I have moderate/severe acne on my face/back. After taking an oral antibiotic: Erythromycin, for around a year and it having little effect, I visited a dermatologist and I have been prescribed a topical erythromycin to be applied in the morning and adapalene at night. I've also been given dispersible doxycycline tablets (100 mg) to be taken once daily. I'm hoping this yields some positive effects.
My dermatologist told me that if this fails to clear my skin then she'll start me on roaccutane in march. Would you guys say that this is what's best? I've heard many speak of the harsh side effects of roaccutane, but if this fails I'm tempted to try it as a last resort.
Hello.

Hi there The Observer. I've taken so, so, so much antibiotics that I even lost count. These antibiotics will only kill the bacteria that causes your zits/cysts. I really have no idea why your doctor would suggest that it basically could be "cured" with antibiotics. Antibiotics itself is just a temporary solution, and trust me, I've been there plenty of times. I have never been on Accutane though, so I couldn't give you any advice on that field... However, you should really consider the side-effects and the benefit you'll get of clearing your skin. Wishing you the best of luck.
