Hey Guys and Gals

Im new to this site and just wanted to tell you where i stand

i have since the age of 15 had acne, recently since 19-20 it has become so bad i went to the doctor

over the last year we tryed lots of medications, creams and pills but nothing worked so i paid to see a dermatologist privately

I was given accutane 60mg per day for the 1st month and a half, i went back for a check up and he upped my dose to 80mg per day

40mg in the am and 40mg before bed

i am 21 in a couple of days, and acne is breaking out everywhere still i was hoping that it would have improved by now but it hasnt :(

starting to loose all hope for this now

i started taking it 0n the 28th October 2011

i am putting on 'Clean & Clear' oil free moisturiser everynight and my face and lips are so dry if my face becomes flakey i put aloe vera vaseline on it to heal it

just at the stage of giving up now, need some emotional support or encouragement as i dont like to talk about it with family and frineds

thanks Danny

hey danny i have never used accutane but are the cleansers you are using recommened by your derm while on acctane?
ive read that some people have the initial break out within the first 2 months dont give up man! just give it atleast until the end of your course and you are bound to be acne free.

thanks for the reply, and my derm told me anything thats oil free is ok, and if it burns or hurts when you apply it then its not doing any good while on accutane, the clenser i use doesnt burn and is oil free, i have read everywhere about the US moisuriser 'cetaphil' was annoying its not in UK anyway i bought 2 tubs and hopefully they will be here in the next 2 weeks :D

Hey Danny. :) Welcome to the Org!

Don't be discouraged if your skin doesn't clear up rapidly, some people take a bit longer to respond than others. The trick is not to do much to your skin. Don't wash twice a day. Whenever you can, don't even wash your skin with cleanser, just use water, pat dry and moisturize. I've found the less you tamper, the less your skin becomes irritated and dried out.

I don't know if this helps you out, but I bought a face mist that I spray on my face during the day that helps to keep it from drying out. :) Mine is by Sukin, but I'm sure you can find other ones (I'm not sure if Sukin is available outside of Australia). Just be sure to check the ingredients. All mine is chamomile and rosewater, but it keeps my skin from becoming flaky and dried out.

Vaseline is good for the lips, keep going with that for sure. :) Sometimes they can get out of hand regardless of what you do, but don't get yourself into a tangle about it. Just keep moisturizing. Some days they're going to suck with such epic intensity that you'll wish you didn't have lips. But the pay off is definitely worth it. Keep your chin up! As Dreaming said, some people experience an initial breakout. Some people clear up a little, then experience a few sporadic breakouts. Persevere, my friend.
