Haha wow. I'm glad I sound like a girl in my post. Im definitely a guy. Oh well. Anyways, I really don't think there is an actual correct answer as far as the argument going on. Everyone has different skin types. I do agree that I should get off BP eventually, but I also will probably reduce it down to applying BP once a day. I'll just take both your advice slowly. Again, the regimen DOES work. It's just I'm about to start umpiring baseball and I am out in the sun anywhere from 2-8 hours a day. That will just make my face more red. Do you guys that use BP once per day use it at night? So it would look like this: AM- cleanser, mosturizer. PM- and BP and AHA (using the AHA sparingly). I am going to try this first.
Face Red Always... Should I Just Accept It?

Make sure you're using SPF 30 or higher during the day.

Julie,
You mentioned we should try a different BP, I was wondering if you had any suggestions for a BP that I can get in a store? It seems like any BP i can find is always 10% or a cream. The only 2.5% BP gel I found was the walmart version of proactiv's repairing treatment but you had said it might have too many ingredients in it to be effective. Thanks!

1) skin healing naturally.. regardless of what you use? are you KIDDING ME! please take a look at the org or any website regaurding infor about the acid mantle. do you know how the skin kills bacteria and heals itself naturaly? with the ACID MANTLE it does all the work. putting any cleansers on the acid mantle about the ph of 7 strips the acid mantle thus making it IMPOSSIBLE to kill off unwanted bacteria on the face. the acid mantle takes 14 hours- 14 days (depending on how damaged) to be completely again and start working in its natural form. this means that when you wash in the am *acid mantle is gone... by night its trying its hardest to repair itself then you wash again at night bam its gone.. and its a continued process every day.
2) oil is needed on the face as a moisturizer and to protect it from DIRT and dirt has been proven to not be the cause of acne. yes it can clog pores but rinse with water is plenty enough to get the dirt and excess oil off of your skin. when you wash with soap to get that "squeeky clean" feeling this is NOT A GOD THING.
3) worst advice ever given? are you joking.. this poor girl claims she has been using bp for a full year and been red since she started. thus she now only uses 3/4 of a pump and is STILL RED and you still are telling her its ok just keep downing the dose youll be alright.. you my friend have given her the worst advice. did you even read her post? ..she has no more acne. if she quits the regimen now and see no change in a few days that is definately enough time to see any change at all in your skin not neccessarily that acne will come right AWAY but her oil production may change the redness may change and she may not get any new pimples in a few days. then she could stop for good. obviously if its 2 weeks down the road and she has a blow out then she should mayb get on a new regimen but definately NOT BP its obviously the most irriating chemical thats ever been on her face!
4) why do so many anti regimen people lurk this forum? First off buddy i got to this forum because it was on the right side of my page in the "recent topics started" area and i lurk that area to try and help people who are new and its their first post because i like to HELP people when they are in need! so amny people post a topics and need hep and people over look the new topics and dont even pay them any attention. so lay off my case bro i dont hang out in the regimen forum and lurk to tell people to stop using the regimen.
5) if its so common that people get red flaky skin because of the REQUIRED amount, and you claim people are getting better by reducing it.. Wh are there so many people posting this EXACT same thread that this girl has posted? more than half of the "recent topics started" are "SO RED FROM BP HELP!!" or some where a long that line.. riddle me that...
Sorry im not trying to be a dick or anything but i came to this post with good intentions to help this girl with the problem..
and you just tried to make me look like a bad guy who know nothing at all about acne..
i may no have a cure but its pure COMMON SENSE that if your face is 'lobster red still for a year using a product' that mayb your face is telling you its irritated by this product and possibly umm.. ALLERGIC? just trying to help...
good luck wiht downing your dosage to 1/3 a pump asavenger says.. and when that doesnt work you can go even lower oh no way that would mean none at all? thats funny isnt it??

Firstly, no, I'm not kidding you. I know how the acid mantle works. Have you heard of pH balancing cleansers and cleansers for sensitive skin? Normally, these protect the acid mantle, or rather replace it after it's been "stripped" as you call it. The acid mantle does not take 14 days to "heal" or "replace". Take your uneducated guesses elsewhere please.
Oil is needed on the face as a moisturiser, I would never disagree. But it's oil which is pore-clogging. Using a simple, non-comedogenic moisturiser with no harsh ingredients would be far better than having to rely on your own body to produce its own moisture. Anyone with hormonal acne will tell you how much of a pain oily skin is like.
Yes, you gave some pretty rubbish advise. The amount of how much you should use (outlined on the "get clear" page) is merely a guideline and doesn't have to be followed exactly. Everyone's skin is different and everyone can tolerate different amounts. Therefore, before throwing away the products she should at least experiment.
An allergic reaction would involve itching and swelling, and by going on what she said in her first post, we can't make a judgement. Red and flaky rings bells that the skin is irritated. Using less Benzoyl Peroxide should be anyone's first plan of action if their skin is red, dry, flaky, irritated etc.

The only BP's I've used in my life have never been store brand (Lumiplexion, Dan's, Kaiser, Proactiv). So I can't recommend any store brands. Well, my daughter did use the Acne-Free set we picked up at Target once. Her acne didn't get any better with it.
Proactiv's BP is garbage in my opinion. The only products of theirs I liked was the sulfur mask and the cleanser. In fact, one of the two ladies who owns Proactive was a dermatologist in Fremont, CA. I made and appt and went to see her a long time ago when Proactiv was first really popular. She tried to put me on a bunch of RX crap. She didn't even recommend her Proactiv. LOL
I don't completely agree with Avenger that allergies present themselves in a specific way. We are not clones and people will react differently. I see two possibilities. You've become allergic to BP now (even though you were able to use it in the past) or you are having a reaction to Dan's formula.
I recommend contacting someone who specializes in acne and talking to them. Get on a regimen with someone who can tweak things that need to be tweaked and who offer products so that if one thing doesn't work, you can try another, knowing that everything is acne safe.

that's crazy that the proactiv lady didn't recommend her own product haha! it definitely is crap.
i'll look again today for a different BP but if i don't find anything, i might have to try to get some free samples from Pam. thanks again for your help! hope you're doing well=)

The cause of the redness is most likely from the bp. Also, try not to use any products that contain alcohol for it causes irritation to the skin, hope this helps!
