Hey Guys,

My name is Ash I have just joined because I am about to embark on the roaccutane journey... my acne is stubborn and is hormonal or allergy related who knows ! but defiently not food ( I eat clean) or exercise realted, I use the right products, I do research.. so yeah I am at my last resort.

I have a little bit of acne at the moment (2 active pimples on the left side of my face which are small and a few clogged pores), when I was prescribed roaccutane 2 months ago my acne was sort off bad (6 active pimples) I just had gotten salicylic acid peel done a week prior to my derm visit (never get that done) !

I have struggled with stubborn acne which goes from being clear, to being mild to being moderate.... and it controls my self esteem, I aspire to be a fitness model and I want to fix this problem once and for all.

I have tried yasmin BC the first time I took that it cleared me up completely then it came back, the second time I used it, it was not as effective. I have also taken spirolactone which did clear me up but once again came back after I stopped taking it.

A piece of advice for people who have not TRIED everything .. I have found the best combination is ... STOP USING HARSH PRODUCTS ! I have spent probably thousands of dollars on stupid high end products with 100000 ingredients in them and they don't work ...
  • Scrub your face at least twice a week - I stopped using a scrub for a few months and developed severely clogged pores so do use a scrub a gentle one ..
  • If you have clogged pores use a gycolic cleanser ! it works wonders within a month my clogged pores purged and was all gone
  • don't skip moistruizer - the more dryier your skin is the more sebum your face will produce and more sebum = more pimples
  • dont get microdermabrasion if you have acne, I had a few active pimples when getting my brasions done, my skin texture was great but what happens is that it erupts your face and spreads ! so if your acne free and u have scars look into microdermabrasion its great !
  • if you use benzoyl peroxide wait 5 mins then put moistruizer on ! i always use to skip the moistruizer until i was told the science behind dry skin - sebum build up... so make sure you moistruise !

That's all the tips I can think of at the moment but If i can think of any others I will add them..

For those who have tried roaccutane I have a few questions:
  • I was wondering if you got an intial breakout
  • It effects working out
  • Does diet effect results (my food sources mainly come from fats & protein, I only eat carbs to fuel my workouts)
  • Does it effect metabolism or ability to put on muscle
  • Can you still go in the sun ... with suncreen on offcourse

I have attached photos of my acne as of today (right now) the photos are from my phone wouldn't say they are great quality .. but my right side is the side that is the worst.

Oh and if anyone wants any advice with nutrition or gym related stuff hit me up

bye xx

Hi And welcome! Your skin looks incredibly GOOD compared to so many people who suffer on here, i'm actually very surprised that anyone would prescribe accutane which is such a harsh drug for a fairly mild breakout (from what i can see from your photos). Well im on my 4th round of accutane and all I can say is BE PREPARED> this drug is strong, for me, it makes me constantly tired, sometimes irritable or teary, achey joints, peeling lips/ skin, dry eyes, really hungry all the time. Yes there is an initial breakout and how long this lasts is different for everyone. Mine is still going through this stage here and there and im on day 24....

You can still go in the sun but have to be VERY careful and will have to apply sunscreen at least twice as frequently as you normally would. The exercise, well my leaflet and advice given from my derm was to avoid strenuous exercise/ heavy exercise. She advised low impact stuff, as the joints can be much more stiff and sore than normal on the drug.

Good luck!!

Supirised you got a prescription for it but if you have tried most other alternatives then sometimes its the only option. I'm thinking about going on it again for a second time to clear up mild-moderate persistent acne. Good luck!

Oh and yes did get an intial breakout, lasted up till about 3-3.5 weeks. Not sure about diet or working out and I took my mainly during the fall/winter months because my derm woouldn't let me use it during summer so sun wasn't too much of an issue but I wouldn't recommend any sort of sun bathing or anything. Just wear sunscreen and don't spend anymore outside then you need to and it should be alright.

Yeah I was surprised also, I have sensitive skin creams do not work well with my skin but when I saw my derm it was after I had a salicylic acid peel and it was rather inflamed, I am always taking photos of my face.. I will upload one around the time I went to see my derm. I am from Australia and they have a skincare place called clearskincareclinic >> http://www.clearskin...clinics.com.au/ their products have worked wonders in the last month or so.

How many mg are you on ? I am suppose to take 10mg for the first 4 weeks then 20mg for 4 months.

Things work for me then they suddenly stop working.. I just want it gone once and for all !

What happened on your first cycle ? did you not get the results you hoped for ?

Well from about 2 months in till about 3-4 months after finishing, so pretty much a year I was clear and it was a great feeling not having to worry about acne whatsoever. Unfortunetly about 4 months after it started to coeme back and I've been using topicals to try control it but I'm thinking of doing one more course and am hoping that would rid me of significant acne for the rest of my life or for years anyway. If it didn't do so would just have to deal with topicals I guess.

At least with your course I wouldn't imagine your intial breakout would be that bad starting on 10mg. But then again I had a pretty bad one and I was only on 20mg and I would weigh more than you.

honestly, accutane is a very powerful drug. and if not taken correctly can actually do ALOT of harm to you. You're acne isn't bad at all in my opinion. you have what is called, "light acne" which is the least-worst type. If I was you I would have just went to the doc and got a good facial cleanser and in about 2-4 monthes ur acne would probably be cleared 100%. I have light-medium acne and i'm white so it sticks out lol..but anyway just stay positive and I hope everything works out for you.
