Ok so I've had acne since about 3rd grade, just the little stuff then but it has progressively worse as the years went on. Right now I'm on Minocycline pills and Benzaclin cream. It has cleared up my face a little but not where I want it to be. I've been on those two for a couple months. The pictures below are of me now. I was wondering if I should turn to accutane?

I had to shrink the other picture because it was too big to upload

I haven't tried a retinoid yet. I have a dermatologist appointment in a couple weeks, so I could ask about it then. Should I try that before I turn to accutane?

Yes. I would say only take Accutane if you've tried literally EVERY other thing. A retinoid may cause an initial breakout, but if it works for you it's amazinnnng (I have the best skin of my life now) and the IB is totally worth it. In case your derm doesn't tell you, you might want to start using it every other night and if your skin isn't sensitive, move to every night. You have to use SPF daily on a retinoid, use gentle water based moisturizers, and not pick. I also use Duac in the morning which is a BP/clindamycin combination. If you do these things and it works your skin will be awesome.

Awesome thank you. I'll definitely talk to the derm about this. I have tried duac before, it helped a little but maybe it could be better with a retinoid.

You are very welcome.

Yeah, either on their own I wouldn't recommend as rabidly, lol, but together they work really well to control and prevent breakouts. (As well as erasing marks left behind)

Yes! I agree with trying other medication before turning to Accutane! For myself, i find that clindoxyl gel in the morning and differin xp ( a retinoid) at night works wonders! But you'll need to be patient! Results are seen 8-10 weeks! and then it gets better! Good luck!

I open to trying different things, accutane has some indecent side effects so yeah I'll try some more things before I go to it. 8-10 weeks is quite a while to see results though, but eh I've tried quite a few other things and I'll be willing to do whatever works

Yeah it is awhile... butttttt it's better than developing allergies or brain fog or conditions. It's at least worth a shot.

are you using any cleansers? they could be irritating your acne even more. i say keep up with the antibiotics and also buy some probiotics to replace that bad bacteria they are giving you! good luck man! i feel your pain. atleast your problem area is just mainly chin mine is on both of my cheeks ear to nose and a few spots on my chin so its like any where i turn im doomed ):

It could be my cleanser, I'm using a clean and clear cleanser with my antibiotics. I'll see what the dermatologists says in a couple weeks but thanks for the input.

It really could be the cleanser causing it. Below is a picture of me during the summer when all I was doing was washing my face with dove body soap. I didn't even wash my face everyday back then. During football season I started to use the cleanser to keep my face clean from the chinstrap and helmet. That's when my pimples started to get worse. I think I'll just take a brake from the cleanser and go back to the dove soap and see If it helps until I go to the dermatologists.
