Hello everyone!

My very first entry here as I have just started The Regimen (only a week in). At this stage in my life, my mid twenties, all I can do is pray to God that The Regimen works for me!

As I am still in the O-M-G-the-dryness-is-killing-me stage, I will ask about a different issue related to dryness.

My lips are extremely dry. They have always been on the dry side for me as a child, but after 2 rounds of Accutane and various other systemic acne solutions, they're REALLY on the dry side now. Plus living in a cold country with lots of indoor heating doesn't help either.

Any suggestions for what to use on the lips while on The Regimen?

The only thing that gives me proper relief for sometime are products with petroleum jelly. But I don't want to use those overnight while sleeping otherwise they'll just spread on my pillow sheets and get on my face. Waxed based products are no better (and useless).

Any help appreciated. Thank you!

I hear you on the cold, I live just about an hour north of Toronto!

While I was on accutane there were a few lip balms/chaps I really liked. Aveeno brand "intense relief therapy" was amazing. It helped the dry/cracking/bleeding lips, and it had a cooling effect so it helped how sore my lips would get from being so dry. At night I used Carmex (it smells and tastes nasty, so I didn't like it during the day). As well Nivea brand "hydrocare" as well as "milk & honey" were great whenever. I found switching it up between a few different lip chaps was the most effective solution for me. I made a habit of carrying at least 4-5 different kinds with me at all times since one would work for a short period of time, and then wouldn't so I'd switch it up everytime I needed to re-apply and it worked wonders.

Try some Aquaphor or Dr Bronners lip balm. I also use Jojoba oil on my lips a few times a week.

I actually haven't tried The Regimen! I went on accutane (my acne returned in about 6 months from the end of my course) just over a year ago and discovered this site while I was researching accutane and side effects/reviews. Funny enough I was going to school in Toronto (at OCADU for drawing and painting) while I was taking accutane. By the time my accutane course was over I was left with very sensitive skin, and the Regimen didn't seem like it would work for me with the BP and all. I'm taking a holistic approach to healing my acne through extensive diet changes (vegetarian, no dairy, low sodium, no refined sugars, low gluten, avoiding soy, peanuts) as well as not using harsh chemicals on my skin. More recently I've eliminated all chemicals from my skincare regimen.

Along with The Regimen I would recommend diet changes! They helped me more (and more permanently) than accutane ever did. Certain foods trigger acne for me (dairy, soy, refined sugar, salt, peanuts, still investigating gluten) and I've found the best way to help my skin is avoid these foods as well as topically treat my acne. Since you're new to this site I'd recommend checking out all the different forums on this site, it's such a valuable resource and it's helped me so much! From what I've read on this site acne is often caused by many different reasons at once, consuming foods that trigger acne, not enough vitamins, environmental stressors, bacteria, etc. It's like solving a puzzle. Looking into the dietary aspects as well as following The Regimen could really be good for you!

Wow!!! What a small world it is. I've also graduated from OCADU! (or OCAD at the time, I was one of the last batches to graduate before the name change), AND also from DRPT faculty Posted Image what a coincidence!

Thanks so much for all your advice! I will definitely explore the forums for more holistic approaches. I also believe in diet changes. Anything that I notice triggers my acne, I avoid as much as possible. But I don't worry too much over it as it can get a bit stressful. If I can overall achieve a healthy diet for my body, I know my skin is bound to respond to it. A balanced, healthy diet is my goal, without eliminating any important food groups. Hopefully, I'll gain enough information on this site to also know about harmful chemicals and how to find alternatives to protect my skin. I'll do anything BUT go back to systemic solutions such as Accutane and antibiotics. It's just too severe for the body with tons of side effects. I hate taking unnecessary medication and only went through them out of desperation when my acne got real bad. The Regimen makes a lot of sense so I'll just pray on the good ol' BP to work on me now that I don't have super severe acne. The Regimen combined with exercise and a healthy diet is what I'm hoping will bring more permanent results.

Thanks once again for all your help! Posted Image

Aquaphor Lip Repair is hands down the best thing for really chapped lips. It actually heals them and feels so soothing. Both my derm and pharmacist recommended it and they were right. After your lips are healed you might want to try Dr Bronner's organic lip balm. It is more natural and goes on smoothly...unlike some other natural lip balms that are grainy.

Blistex, there is a particular variant that specializes in dry lips due to cold weather and it worked for me. I also like using body shop's lip balm. To retain your lips moisture I guess you needed time to time application of lip balm (esp. if your lips is starting to feel dry) and drinking lots of water. Hope it will help.

My lips are very dry as well so bad that it bleeds at times. I finally got sick of trying different products and nothing worked for me. Some lip products made it worse. I went to my dermatologist and he gave me a balm. I have no clue what it is but it works! Only thing that works for me so far.

When I started a migraine medicine, it made my lips extremely dry. The pharmacist here in our Walmart suggest Cortibalm. She said people who get on accutane use it and I kid you not, I felt instant relief! It it 1% hydrocortisone and it helped me a lot. It's the only chapstick I use now and I even use it on my daughter's cheeks and under her mouth when she licks it too much. :) You can order it online but our walmart pharmacy carries it (behind the counter). It's amazing!
