1. Maybelline Dream Smooth Mousse- no reaction, but felt way to greasy. Also, their color selection is very, very, pink and dark. It's difficult to find a shade for Ivory skin.
2. Tried the Dr. Jart BB Cream.- Itchy, itchy, itchy.
3. Tarte Smooth Operator TM- Very, very, shiny. Reacted under my chin with a rash. This one did the most damage. Ironically this one marketed more as a natural product. That should have been a red flag for me right there. I think natural is great. However, some natural oils truly irritate my skin. The more basic the better....for me. Everyone is different. I don't want spf added. I will add my own. I don't want antioxidants added. I will add my own. Same goes for the primer. Please don't add extra stuff-I have my own. I'm so not against these added benefits. But when you have sensitive, reactive, acne-prone, dry, skin you know what you like and mostly you know what works with your skin and not against it. Which is why I'm just okay with basic. Additions I can make. In my mind it's like building a recipe: You have the basic foundation and any added spice is to your taste. Does that make sense. I can make a basic foundation amazing with the right tools. So this is what I found: Cover Girl Clean Foundation. I can almost hear the yucks. It's basic and standard. However, with the right tools it's very, very, good. Good as in no reaction. No pimples. Light coverage that doesn't feel like you need to wash it off the minute you put it on your face. It's also build-a-coverage. I like light coverage with powder. I also use a concealer for redness. But, I do this with mineral makeup as well. So no loss there. No fragrance. No SPF. No added extras. Basic liquid foundation. I have been using the Oil-Free clean and the Sensitive Skin Clean together. Classic Ivory and Ivory. The ingredients are the same for both. The formulation is different. The oil-free foundation bumps the oil absorbing properties higher in the ingredient list than in the sensitive skin formulation. Bottom line: It's basic, no thrills foundation that lightly covers which can be applied with a brush, sponge, or clean fingertips. I use a brush. On the skin deep scale of toxicity ranking from 1 to 10. 10 being not good for skin-this ranked 4. That I can live with. I thought I would just share this information. I've tried them all. Drugstore or department. Ingredients and formulation are key for my skin. Bells and whistles mean nothing to me when my skin is itching and on fire.
Cover Girl Clean Oil-Free Foundation: Water, Cyclopentasiloxane, Propylene Glycol, Talc, Glycerin, PEG/PPG 18/18 Dimethicone, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Cyclomethicone, Magnesium Sulfate, Silica, Laureth 7, Arachidyl Behenate, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Trihydroxystearin, Propylparaben, Methicone, Isopropyl Titanium Triisostearate, Methylparaben, Synthetic Wax, Trisodium EDTA, Ethylene Brassylate, Stearic Acid, Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxides, Mica
Cover Girl Clean Sensitive Skin Foundation: Water, Cyclopentasiloxane, Propylene Glycol, Talc, Glycerin, PEG/PPG 18/18 Dimethicone, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Cyclomethicone, Magnesium Sulfate, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Laureth 7, Arachidyl Behenate, Silica, Trihydroxystearin, Propylparaben, Methicone, Isopropyl Titanium Triisostearate, Methylparaben, Synthetic Wax, Trisodium EDTA, Ethylene Brassylate, Stearic Acid, Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxides, Mica
If you read the ingredients against each other you can see that from the oil-free to the sensitive skin foundation they bumped and switched the Silica and Sodium Dehydroacetate. Both are oil absorbing properties. Ingredient wise no different, however in formulation quite different. I mix the two together for shade and also because I'm combo skin.
I will add my next try was Cover Girl Aqua Smoothers for a heavier coverage. On a side note Max Factor Stay Put Foundation is comparable to Cover Girl Clean with added 'cones' for long wear. Also, compared against Aqua Smoothers against formualtion/ingredients. Which would make sense they are under the same company umbrella.
