Hi,

I need help. I've been lurking but I would really like some light shed on my problem. I'll break it down into bullets
  • Shaved my pubic area once with a razor and got a ton of painful bumps
  • Have since been using clippers but will still get bumps and some develop HARD painful things underneath
  • I've noticed when my skin gets physically irritated (sex or my athletic cup) these bumps get very bad
I've used the following
  • BP / Neosporin / Ice / Advil - don't think it made any difference it just rode itself out after a very long time
  • Recently used tea tree oil for a small bump and disappeared over a few days... though new bigger ones came up
  • I've also recently been using sea salt baths and nizoram shampoo
Upon starting my recent treatment with tea tree oil / sea salt / nizoram it got a little better, but then suddenly turned worse. Do you guys have ideas?

I'll go to the dermatologist but I've seen a lot of posts making them seem like they misdiagnose often... I'd like to be as educated as possible. Thanks!

Razor burn/ingrown hairs is my best guess. There's a number of unpleasant dermatological conditions that can arise from shaving (especially when using improper techniques) - though, rest assured, none are particularly harmful (nuisances, at best).

What you're doing is about the best you can; antimicrobials and exfoliants help to resolve these lesions. One thing you might want to consider (and might be the reason for the apparent worsening) is applying a moisturizer immediately after shaving and regularly the following days (especially when using the products you described). Tea tree oil, BP, and sea salt are all drying - especially in areas with a thinner epidermis (i.e. face, neck, groin). You might also look into purchasing a product with alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) in it (could be a moisturizer, if you want to kill two birds with one stone). AHA is an exfoliant and is generally less irritating than your current treatments of choice.

Your dermatologist might prescribe a light topical corticosteroid if the bumps are truly distressing (though this is not a long-term solution; don't ever use hydrocortisone for extended periods of time). He might disagree entirely with this "diagnosis".

Hope this helps. Good luck! Posted Image
