A few years back mine retinoid cure me and gave me 90% clear face and get rid of all the marks/scars but at that time i used tea tree oil, la roche posay products and some random stuff my mum gave me to help me. So now i wonder mayb its not the retinoid that help to clear my marks and scars in the past? mayb its the other products? So can someone help to clear up on whether retinoids help acne scars and marks?

Retinoids help with scarring, though to what extent depends greatly on the severity and depth. They accelerate cellular desquamation (the rate at which dead skins cells are shed), thicken the dermis (though they thin the epidermis), and stimulate collagen production (or, as some hypothesize, inhibit the production of enzymes responsible for degrading collagen). In this manner, they're great as a maintenance medication to diminish the impact of scars, although it's important to note you'll get much more obvious (or at least, accelerated) results via cosmetic surgery (fillers, laser resurfacing, etc.).
