I've dealt with acne since my freshman year in high school, i'm now 30 years old. I'm male, fair skin, latino. You know the story - I've tried everything. Accutane, antibacterial pills, retin-a micro, etc. I must say, the best skin I've had was when I was on Retin-A Micro gel 0.04. My skin was under control but then my insurance wouldn't cover the cost and the Rx price is over $280 so I wanted to find something different.
This is what has worked for me
1.) cut out eggs (i know, i was surprised about this one!)
2.) high protein, low carb diet
3.) cut out sugar and artificial sweetners (no soda, no high fructose corn syrup, etc)
4.) cut out bread
5.) eat all organic foods (usuall shop at Whole Foods)
6.) cut out coffee
7.) cut out caffeine
8.) Guthy Renker vita-clear vitamins, am also using Probiotics 75 (GNC brand)
-I'm into fitness so eating well is just what athletes do. I personally am using Isopure no carb for protein intake and Muscletech aminofx and occasionally use Neurocore. Fitness does help folks and I also have started to use the steam room for about 15 minutes. When I get out I don't wash with any soap, just make sure I'm in the shower for a while to rinse of the sweat (luke warm water).
-Something that has helped me also is Proactive (only at night). I use the extra strength version and during the day I moistureize (moisturize is important, i use Proactive spf15 - best one). I don't always use the Proactive cleanser but when I do I use their new regular strength cleanser. I mostly use the St. Ives apricot srub with salycic acid.
To summarize, very healthy eating and fitness has done most of the work in helping the acne situation. I use Proactive as the extra effort to minimize the chance of acne showing up. I'm clear now! Give this a try!
