I have had what my sister believe to be an acne cyst on my chin for a long time now and it will not go away and now I am starting to doubt if that is in fact what it is.

It will get inflamed for few days to a couple of weeks at a time and be quite painful, then disappear so completely for weeks I forget that I have it. I do not know when exactly it showed up for the first time but it is on my drivers license picture from March of 2010. I usually pick at it when it's inflamed and occasionally get some pus out, but the past couple of flare ups I've been trying very hard to avoid that assuming that's it's been counterproductive. I'm at work right now without a camera, but I can upload a photo later if it will help.

If it matters I'm male and don't have a huge history of acne, a little on my back in High School but other than this I've been clear since. (I'm 21 now, still under 25 so I thought it best to avoid the adult acne board).

My primary concerns are, is this really acne or should I be more worried (if it was a major concern I'd go to a doctor and not the internet) and if it is, is there anything I can do to actually get rid permanently of it short of seeing a doctor (or will that not even help and I should save my money)?

if you dont have any history of acne on your face and it leaves and comes back i would see a doctor to find out what it is. doesnt sound like acne to me..

Like a boil? I would see a dermatologist, they may give you antibiotics or cortizone shot....post a pic of the sucker! Lol

Here is a pic of it. It's much smaller than it was when I posted this and I failed and not messing with it though which you can sort of tell. Also I don't think it's a boil because hard and I thought boils were soft. It's sounding to me like I'm going to need to go to a dermatologist either way.

Hmmm idk....it does kinda look like a pimple. Dont pick it cuz then its gonna get redder, can get infected, or scar. It may be a cystic acne thats deep and will come and go. Get it checked out if you continue to be bothered, for peace of mind.

have you ever tried the african black soap with shea butter? or heard about it?
im really interested into ordering some seems how my acne just seems to be either staying where its at forever or VERY sloooooowlly decreasing..
