I have a cyst about the size of a dime right beside my eye, every time I open or close my eye it is extremely painful. I tried treating it topically and all it did was make the bump red and shed a layer of skin. My eye was quite swollen from it on Saturday so I went to a medicenter to make sure it wasn't an eye infection. The medi center dr gave me antibiotics in case it was an infection and one of the nurses suggested I get it injected to reduce the pressure on my eye. I made an appt. with my family Dr..... are family dr's able to give cortizone injections to reduce swelling? how long does it take to go down after an injection?

Yes, most PCPs are able to give cortisone injections, as are most derms. Usually about 1 day before you see real results.
