Just got some Almay Smart Shade concealer, tried it out, it seems pretty close to my skin tone other than it's slightly more orange. It also has a different texture to skin, and you can notice I'm wearing it despite trying to smooth it into the surrounding skin, you can see an orangey patch. It's not massively noticable, I could probably walk down the street and no one would notice, but I'm sure if I stopped to talk to someone they would see. Am I not applying it right, or do I need a different shade, or will it always be orangey? Everything else I've found relating to this problem suggests covering it with foundation, I can't get away with covering my whole face in foundation, it would probably make it more obvious. Help!

I didn't like Almay because it was too chalky and dried too quickly. Try Neutrogena's skin clearing makeup. It's a lot more liquidy so you can apply it better. Just put a little on your finger and tap it on rather than smear it. They have quite a few shades too, so you should be able to match your skin tone. And the bonus is it has some salicylic acid in it, so it can sometimes get rid of a pimple if you catch it early.

oh wow! I'm sorry =( Well you could always try something else. I hear L'Oreal True Match is a good one. Covergirl is good...even though you're a guy =P Just make sure they're oil free.

True match looks to be about £5 too, might try it. Is concealer definitely what I'm looking for? Not liquid foundation or anything like that? Just want something as undetectable as possible that covers up my spots, as opposed to orange spotchyness :/

I use mineral makeup (foundation) as a concealer. I use a concealer brush. It's much easier to find a perfect match to your skin with mineral makeup such as Everyday Minerals. I'm more on the olive toned side, so most drugstore brands look pink or orange on me. If you aren't going to use foundation all over, it's crucial you get a perfect match.

Yep, a concealer is what you want. I've never tried the mineral makeup like the girl above me. You can always try out different things til you find what works for you. I don't know where you live, but if you have a walmart, you can always return something if you don't like it.

Hey, i use a liquid concealer by Maybelline called 'Pure Cover Mineral', it comes in three shades (i get number two) but it goes on nicely, has good coverage and doesnt feel dry. I tap some translucent powder over the top when im done to set it, and it looks natural. Good luck xxxxx

I'm using the cheapest conclealer I found in a nearby cosmetic shop and nobody knows I have dark circles. Too bad it's a local brand Just make sure you have the correct tone, which is just a little darker than your skin (in the bottle, cause when you spread it, it seems lighter). If darker, it appears orange, while if lighter, it looks kinda unnatural.

I'm on the regimen and after I apply the moisturiser I apply concealer. I've been using standard concealer from boots for years but recently bought some specialist male concealer called Manza (I think the site was www.manza.co.uk). Its pretty good, it disguises my red marks well and nobody has questioned whether I'm wearing make-up so far! Hope it helps!

Hi ollie0987, just thought I'd let you know that colour is definitely too orange for you. A different texture is generally okay (if you dab at it with your finger gently over the area you'll find it eventually smoothes out to fit to your skin), but concealers are supposed to match, or be a shade lighter than your skin, if anything.

It's hard to tell without matching you in person (I know it's embarrassing, but any staff member would be happy to help you, or even a female friend), but if I were you I'd try and match a lighter shade, and definitely something more pink-toned, rather than orange. Which Almay Smart Shade colour of concealer did you buy? Perhaps try a "fair" (or even ivory?) shade, or something similar. You can match it against your hand colour tone, but be careful if you get more sun exposure there because obviously it'll be the wrong tone. To match a colour, I apply it to my jaw (that way it's my "natural" colour, with no influence from redness, etc.), and check if it matches (compared to the other side) whilst I'm blending it in.

If you don't want to hang around the shops trying stuff on, ask for test samples (most places are happy to do this), take them home and try them out. You can even post the pics up here and we'll help you choose the best match! Hope this helps

Having a think about it, if I were you I'd look for something in the fair to neutral-type range (ignore the ivory, I have no idea why I said that, haha!), so look for something "light", to perhaps medium-light.
