ok, firstly I was on 80mg accutane about 2 years ago, and though my skin is now vastly improved it is still bad and is periodically as bad as before

I tried the b5 thing before using accutane, cant say it was drastically better though I didnt stick with it for very long due to going on tane. Im also struggling to find any decent vitamin A info on here... I understand it is dangerous and 300,000 IU / day+ has been shown to help etc. At least initially I would be taking a 100,000 dose though. Is self-medication with regards to vitamin A regarded as a no-go? I have read some of the stuff by Dr Mercola and understand its a fat soluble vitamin.. just looking for some first hand info really

Thanks for any help

It's probably dangerous to self-medicate vitamin A in large quantities, seeing as when you do take it in the form of Accutane you get regular blood tests and consultations to make sure your organs are coping and your blood is healthy. With self-medication you can't do these tests and don't understand how your body is processing the vitamin. Can you not try accutane again, seeing as you're willing to take vitamin A?

Vitamin A, D, and K(active form) have a dose dependent relationship. Vitamin A is only toxic if you have low vitamin D especially and K secondary. Though taking 100k Vit A will snuff out your D stores pretty quick. Moral of the story - Get plenty of sun or hit up some quality D3 (thorne research liquid vit D)

EDIT: Taking massive doses of Vit A is pretty much taking accutane as accutane is naturally produced in the body in small amounts, but with huge massive doses of vitamin A that vitamin A derivative gets a huge influx.

If you're vitamin D scores are already weak this can be very dangerous. I would get vitamin D bloodwork.

I wiser approach would be to consume beef liver 2x a week. Combine that with a natural vitamin D3 and Vit K mk4.

Vitamin D3 and K-MK4 are the only sane vitamins to take.

cheers guys. Kind of at the end of my tether with this now (been saying that for the last 6/7 years ha) so I decided to go for it at 100,000IU a day. I don't wanna speak too soon and I'm sure it'll be as bad as ever in a couple of days but my skin is as clear 3 days in as it has been in years. Time will tell. Thanks for the D3 advice I'll pick some up just in case. Fingers crossed I'll be okay though I was using tane for months at 80mg and my bloodwork was pretty much perfect.

I really would advise against megadosing Vitamin A. It's not the same as taking Accutane because Accutane is Vit A derived, but not actually Vitamin A. You're likely to experience some toxicity symptoms at 100K IU/day unless you're eating a low-fat diet. It would really be better to take a low or moderate dose for an extended period of time.
