What was happening to make you have to get off the 40/80? I'm on my 16th day and nothing terribly bad is happening ( Knocks on wood ).. My lips get a little dry, definitely when I wake up but I apply chapstick Lots. And I am having plenty of flakiness around my nose and mouth area. I did have like 2 headaches since starting but they weren't too bad or anything. Other than that.. Nothing much is going on! My last course had me on 40mgs the fist month and 80 for the rest of my course. ( I was on a 5 month course ) . How long have you been on so far? I hope nothing bad happens. It's sad that all of us that struggle with skin issues have to go through risks and all types of side effects from tons of different medicines just to have clear skin!
I was suffering some pretty nasty side effects, which is strange because other than the super dry lips I barely felt any on the 40 mg. Worst of all was that the 40/80mg dosage really exacerbated my depression - I basically have to go off Accutane for a week right now because my derma wants me to get the heavier dosage out of my system before I go back to 40mg/daily.

I've been on Accutane for almost two months now. I started during the first week of October if I remember correctly.

Thanks! Your skin looks better to me already, at least from the pictures you just posted.

Aw thank you! That's pretty upsetting that the bump up in dosage would cause such a problem. After it's all out of your system are you going to be only on 40 for the rest of your course?

Day 19-
Well lastnight I tried Jojoba oil for the first time. I think I kinda used alot Idk, but I looked really oily but I didn't care because I was going to sleep & noone was going to see me! Well I woke up this morning & there's hardly any oil on my face! I sleep on my back because it's better for your skin so it shouldn't have rubbed off onto the pillow because I try to make sure I NEVER sleep on my face. Does Jojoba oil sink into your skin? I don't even have to wash my face this morning like I was hoping! It's too cold to wash my face twice a day & my skin is too sensitive for that!
Though, my nose is a little dry feeling & roughish, my chin feels really soft Posted Image I don't know what the rest of my skin feels like because I hate touching all over my face..

My brochure for Heather Loraine 100% Pure Jojoba Oil says that Jojoba oil has a single strand or "snake like" structure to its molecule which fits easily through the pores of the skin and leaves no oily surface. It enhances the skin's retention of moisture, yet does not prevent the transpiration of the toxins and gases since it does not block the pores.

( Maybe that's why my skin doesn't feel greasy like it would if I would have slept in Extra Virgin Coconut oil.. Which I've done before & would wake up oily! )

Anyways, Today my skin is the same I think? I really can't tell any difference. I wonder how long it takes the average person on accutane to start seeing improvement...

I hope soon....

Um, No one has answered one of the questions I asked but if someone could I would appreciate it ..

Does anyone get really itchy on their face? I don't know why I get really itchy, especially at night . Only on my face. Once I was told by a derm I have Seborrhea.. Could that be why?

I think I remember Gutterflower mentioning in her log that her skin got really itchy at the start, pretty much where you are on your course at the moment, but that seemed to subside on its own after a while. I've noticed a few people mentioned that their face got itchy early on but I don't think anyone's attributed it to anything in particular other than being an early side effect as it just seems to pass. :)

I'm SOOOO ITCHY!! I get really itchy on my cheeks...over near my ears. That is where I've always had pretty dry skin, so I think its just pissed off that what little moisture was there is now gone. I also get crazy itchy on my upper chest and neck. I never put lotion there and I need to start. I wouldn't worry about it, your skin is probably just drying out and angry with you :)

I don't think it's the accutane causing it for me.. I mean, the accutane has kind of added to the issue, but my "acne" has been itchy for some time... Like 2 years & I still have yet to find out why . It's just so stressful because no dermatologist can explain to me why this happens.

Even when I put on a ton of Jojoba oil I still get itchy ! I'm just not sure why.

I definitely agree! I would never even have my fingers anywhere near my face if it weren't for the itch! I never used to bother to touch my face other than washing it.. but ever since it's been itchy it's just impossible to keep away. And it causes me to pick at flakes I get ( because they'll itch ) or end up accidentally scratching a white head. I sometimes sleep with gloves on like babies do and I also bite my nails down really short to stop doing it too which I hate doing.

I get itchy as well, I was SO SO SO itchy when i had tons of cysts/nodules all over my cheeks (around week 4) it went away once the cysts went away. I think it could be the possibility of your acne drying up and your skin healing itsself. mine felt similar to the itchiness of a wound healing.

Yes I do too! My derm said it's from the overall drying you experience on Accutane.

That could be... But I don't have cysts . But even with my acne it's just always itchy and it interrupts my sleep which is really horrible to me because I'll wake up scratching my face. :(

Yes I do too! My derm said it's from the overall drying you experience on Accutane.

The Accutane makes my arms kind' of itchy, but my face has been itchy much before the Accutane.

I know what you mean. My face always tingled/became itchy in an area that the next day a pimple will come up in that spot where I scratched it. And I think Roaccutane is making me itchy too :( I couldn't stop scratching one of my fingers last night.

Hey. Good luck on Accutane! :)

Just wanted to drop by and say that Accutane dries your skin and makes it itchy. The same as your skin, mine too was so so itchy.. Also there were times when my scalp was really itchy. But overall, after few months, my skin is no more itchy, no more flaky. You will be just fine, time will pass sooo fast :)

Mel.

Isn't it horrible?! Ugh! Do you scratch in your sleep too? Or is that only me? :(

Thank you :) I hope soon or later it will stop itching! But honestly, I was itchy before the accutane, especially my face! I don't know if it's the acne causing it, or maybe my sensitive skin. I have yet to find out exactly why !

well. is it that bad, girl?itching also might have to do with psychological tension, nervousness..are you stressed? i know it doesnt make much sense what i say, but try not to think about itching and do your best not to scracth..maybe use some good moisturiser or something non irritating all over your body and pay attention to shampoo, it might reduce the itching, i think :))as far as i understand itching happens because of the drying of skin. so, just try to make it less stressful and painfull for your skin with good products and care.
