Hello all!

About 2 weeks ago I started a new acne regimen that included Spiro and Ortho-TriCyclen. I'm feeling very good about them helping my moderate acne as I think I'm already noticing results, but I'm not sure I can deal with the side effects.

I've become very sensitive to everything, cry easily and yell even easier. This is not easy on my kids or husband. I'm thinking about seeing about an anti-depressant or something to elevate my mood. I don't want to abandon the hormonal treatments if they can help my skin.

This feels like a catch-22 to me; depressed if my skin doesn't improve and depressed while I'm trying to improve my skin. Hope that makes sense.

Anyone else have experience with this? Will this moodiness go away eventually? I'm really starting to worry. About this and everything else!

Help!!!
Jen

No, but I have heard of people getting that way and it makes sense since you're doing something to the hormones. When I first went on spiro, I became a bit anxious, and I'm not like that. It was like that on flutamide too, but it seems to have leveled out, because I am not that way anymore. Maybe it just happens in the beginning while everything is being reset. I think it took about 6 months to get back to normal, give or take.

Yep, I got depressed from Diane35 (and probably some other "outside" factors). Took an antidepressant for couple of months and I got better. Don't hesitate in seeking help.

Thanks so much....at least I know I'm not alone in this. Most people don't understand.

You make perfect sense. I had to get off of spiro, and noticed within a week that my mood picked up considerably. I was actually feeling depressed for the first time in my life, to the point where I was going to go see someone about it, and I didn't make the connection until after I got off of spiro. On BCP, I was fine until after I had kids - then I was just a raging bitch all the time. So if you don't want to get off of hormonal treatments, then I definitely agree that you should seek help/treatment. Yes, it is a catch-22.
