I went on holiday at the start of October and as I hadn't been away for almost a decade, I'd forgotten how badly my fair skin reacts to the sun.

Subsequently, I got incredibly bad sunburn on my forehead and nose. To the extent that my forehead swelled in the centre, and the swelling that moved down towards my nose and the bridge of my nose began to swell as well (If anyone ever watched Buffy, I looked much like one of the vampires!)

Now, its been over a month since the sunburn and have not ben exposed to the sun since (I live in the very gloomy and dark depths of England) but my forehead and nose, can still look especially red (even up to half an hour after having a shower...)

Has anyone else experienced this + is it going to be permanent damage to my skin or should I wait longer for it to fade?

(I have always avoided the sun in the past and will continue to do so....I usually resemble a Halloween ghost!)

The swelling could indicate a 2nd degree burn. These are rare with sun light, but quite possible.
However, if only past 1 month it only looks red sometimes, for what I understood, it shouldn't have been such a severe burn. I burned my whole face in a grease fire 2 years ago (2nd degree), and it took a year and a half to stop getting red. So don't worry, I guess it'll stop getting red any time. What you should do to speed this up, is stop washing your face with tap water. Tap water is very aggressive for facial skin. Wash it with low mineral bottled water, and you'll definitely see the difference.

Redness after sunburn is not a big deal..It's quiet normal...There are some parts on the face which are oily like forehead and nose and lower part of chin..The oil are extract from this parts..There are creme available in market known as after sunburn cream..
