Hi,
I am 26 and have been on Minocycline, Panoxyl wash and Differin cream for about three years to treat severe/deep acne on my face.
I am pleased to say that my condition has improved a great deal but I am still getting one or two deep infections a month and my skin has started to look red, tried and dry.
Does anybody have any advice for what i should be doing next? Should I keep taking the antibiotics as a preventative measure? Are there any less harsh topical treatments i could use to keep the acne under control without continuing to damage my skin?
I have read articles on this message board for a number of years now and I wish you all the best of luck!

Yes --- change your diet to avoid dairy, sugary foods, caffeine, and alcohol. It may be time to get off the antibiotic and heal up your gut. See my thread "My Registered Dietitian's Recommendations". Your skin will calm down when the rest of your system calms down.
Also you may want to switch from Differin to another less irritating retin-a product. I use a generic tretinoin cream .1% and my sensitive skin does okay on it. Some people swear by Retin-A Micro.
You may be sensitive to the benzoil peroxide in your face wash which is 10% and could be too strong now. I used benzoil peroxide for years and after many years it started inflaming my skin to the point that I had to stop but that was after about 10 years. Dan's benzoil peroxide solution is different...it is a lower dose and in a non-irritating base. You may want to switch over to his system and see if that works better.
