I have recently begun to think whether i actually have acne at all. I wonder if anyone could give me any advice or suggestions as to the possibility of me having dermatitis, or more specifically perioral dermatitis?

I am starting to doubt i have acne for the following reasons:

1) I am 24. Although I had spots as a kid my acne (or not?!) is now of a different sort. It can't be hormonal or adolescent acne.

2) My acne (?!) is only around my mouth, or a least in the lower 3rd of my face. I have none on my cheeks, nose, forehead or body.

3) I haven't benifited at all from conventional acne treatments (oral and topical antibiotics, various creams and OTC remedies, natural and herbal remedies etc.) Accutane DID clear me up but it came back within 1-2 months of treatment.

4) I have a general redness and dryness (only around mouth and in lower 3rd of face) at all times.

Can anyone tell me from experience or just knowledge how I can tell the difference between acne and dermatitis/perioral dermatitis? Posted Image

Yes very irritating. If I knew my problem I'm sure I could treat it. Derms seem to immidiately diagnose on first site which only makes it worse. Seems like anyone with a slightly red face and a few spots is given the usual round of BP and antibiotics.

Hopefully we'll get some answers :)

Identical topic here: http://www.acne.org/...atitis-or-acne/. One topic is enough. Thanks!
