I'm on my 7th packet of Dianette now and am still getting new spots apparently from nowhere. My skin looks terrible. I am constantly getting red spots and whiteheads around my chin and mouth, and a few on my forehead. my forehead is still awful though, there's loads of clogged pores and blackheads which in a way are worse because makeup makes it look worse rather than better.
is it normal for it to take this long? I'm planning on continuing because I know it's different for everyone in terms of how long things take to be effective, but it's really getting me down. any advice?

I am on Diane 35 and Accutane perhaps you need to go on Accutane or Retin A cream.

It depends on how bad your acne is and how much it bothers you. I am 100% clear on week 19 of 20 on Accutane and Diane 35. It is not a easy drug to be on but clear skin is very important to me.

It bothers me a lot but my skin is very sensitive and I don't feel like I could cope with the irritation especially as you can't hide dryness with makeup. Also as depressed as I get about acne and want clear skin, I don't think it's worth the risk that comes with Accutane. Granted I don't know a whole lot about it, but I've heard the side effects can be horrific. I'd rather try every option there is before resorting to it. Congrats on finding something that works for you though!

Jess, I agree - try all other options before turning to Accutane. I unfortunately was resistant to topicals and antibotics so it was my last resort. You can check out my blog which details my Tane journey - my 3rd time around. My skin has gone from perfect to acne, to perfect again to acne etc. Like you I just want to be clear.

oh I see, my skin became resistant to topical antibiotics, but I'm going to go to the doctors tomorrow and ask about topical retinoids. I know it might be worse before better with retinoids but it'd be worth it to get clear skin in the end. I hope it works for you this time, good luck

I'm in a similar position, I'm on my 6th packet of Dianette and still getting massive breakouts. Most of the time it's about 70% - 80% clear but I always seem to have a massive breakout around ovulation time/mid-cycle. It's definitely improved my acne so I don't want to go off it, I was just hoping it would've cleared it completely. I'm thinking of asking to go on spiro as well next time I go to the doctors.
