I've had nearly waist-length hair most of my life, having never cut it short. Only recently, I've wondered if this could be a contributing factor to the clogged pores that have been bothering me for years. Not that the hair itself is a problem, but the products that i put into it. I've been trying to further simplify my hair care routine so hopefully that will help, will probably start wearing a headwrap at night(although I can't abide the feeling of constriction aroung my head while sleeping, usually just let it loose at night). Changing my pillowcase daily is an option, although I've just started using BP again so I'll have to shop for a slew of white pillowcases:) I don't really use much product and I rarely heat-style it. I have used moroccan oil for a few years now, does anyone know the comedogenicity of this product? If anyone has any suggestions I'd be glad to hear them (apart from cutting my hair off!). I'm interested in knowing about hair care products that don't aggravate facial skin yet still remain effective in conditioning or cleaning hair (my hair type is fine, wavy and abundant). Thank-you.

I just recommend keeping your hair off of your face as much as possible and being cautious when using aerosol products to cover your face.

I would recommend staying away from hair products all together if you can. Hair products always contain occlusives in them usually silicones that when they touch the face can block pores and cause breakouts. Many hair products also contain mineral oil which can also block pores and cause breakouts. I do not think your issue is your long hair. I would wash it with a natural shampoo by yes to carrots (at walgreens) or burts Bees. These do not contain dimethicones/silicones so they won't contribute to your breakouts.

I'm not sure if it has any correlation, but I started using Moroccan oil in my hair in June, and I had my MASSIVE breakout at the beginning of August... I'd previously had crystal-clear skin, not so much as 1 pimple in over 3 years... and then, WHAM, almost a hundred of them!
I'm not sure if the Moroccan oil had anything to do with (there was a LOT of stuff--birth control, anorexia recovery and changing eating habits--that could have also caused the breakout), but needless to say that I switched back to my old product...
Also, keep your hair OFF your face! I started wearing my hair in a tight bun with a headband almost all the time--especially when sleeping and working out. I think keeping my hair off my skin while I'm sleeping has made a HUGE difference. I used to wake up with at least 3-4 new pimples everyday, but now its more like 1-2 a week. Also, try laying a clean, COTTON towel over your pillow every night! I also noticed a big improvement when I started using this instead of just a clean pillowcase. I'm not sure exactly why (maybe the polyester pillowcase was irritating my skin? maybe the soft cotton towel absorbs some of my oil? I don't know!) but I noticed a big improvement when I started using this instead of just a clean pillowcase.

I'd agree with Leighbrack02- a lot of hair styling products or treatments tend to have silicones and stuff not so great for your skin. I've used a lot of mousse, hairspray, and hair conditioning treatments and I was pretty OCD about keeping my bangs bobby pinned back and away from my face.
Natural products or very good basic shampoos and conditioners are the way to go. I like and use Johnson and Johnson's baby shampoo sometimes.

Morrocan oil has nothing good in it except for a very small amount of argan oil. The rest is a chemical filled product. The ingredients are........
- Cyclopentasiloxane,
- Dimethicone,
- Cyclomethicone,
- Butylphenyl,
- MethylPropional,
- Argania Spinoza Kernal Oil (Aragan Oil),
- Linseed (Linum Usitatissimum) Extract,
- Fragrance Supplement,
- D&C Yellow-11, D&C Red-17,
- Coumarin,
- Benzyl Benzoate,
- Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone
