Hello,
My 16 year old daughter has tried everything to clear up her acne. After jumping through a whole lot of hoops. , we were finally able to get her a prescription for the YAZ bcp. She is to start it any day now. Just this week, there are reports on the higher incidence of strokes and blood clots when using this particular formulation of bcp (and yet it is the formulation most recommended for acne). How can I now give this to her?! Originally, she was prescribed the Seasonique, so that she would only have 4 cycles per year. I researched it and learned that it has a higher rate of causing depression/mood swings and break through bleeding. Any thoughts would be most appreciated.
New Yaz Safety Concerns....what To Do?!

Every birth control has its side effects. One of the things about Yaz is that it was an incredibly popular birth control when it came out because of its ability to reduce mood swings and other side effects. If you think about it this way - The more people taking a certain medication, the more side effects you will have. You have to ask yourself these questions. Is your daughter overweight or obese? Does she have any possible health conditions that may interfere with birth control? Birth control is trial and error, and while some women may say that one birth control caused them problems, some women may say it didn't change them at all. Some women are just more prone to side effects than others, and honestly, some women just convince themselves that they have some of the side effects when they really don't. I would just monitor your daughter on either of the birth control pills and make sure she is not going through any emotional/physical changes.
