Tomorrow makes 5 weeks that I have been on Retin-A and my face is still turning red. I tell people I'm just tanning since I get ask why is my face red almost daily. At the same time, I didn't have the break out phase like I read about on my third week. I really don't have acne to say, more like scars on my face. I'm 29 and I don't break out anymore, I'm just trying to get rid of these scars.
My routine starts off with cleaning my face with pond's cold cream, followed by Cetaphil cleanser, I then wait 30 mintues before putting on the Retin. Once the Retin is on I wait 30 mintues again before I put on Neutrogena oil-free moisture. In the morning I use SPF 30 sunscreen lotion and then I put on the moisture. It hard to say if my scars are clearing up, in a way it does look like the Retin is working, but still not sure. Anyway, am I doing something wrong? From what I read the redness goes away after a few days and I never had the breakout phase.

maybe you're using too much of the retinoid at a time (for atralin you are only supposed to use a pea sized amount on your entire face.) or maybe you're just sensitive to it and should use it less often; every other night or every two nights and work your way slowly back to using every day. best to ask the doc tho.

I do use a pea size and beside three or four times, I been using the Retin daily for 5 weeks. I don't know. Maybe I'm just extra sensitive to it. And thanks for the tip po4emu, looks like Amazon has it, I will order a bottle.

It could also be something else in the carrier. If it's the cream it could be one of the emollients; if it's the gel it could be the alcohol.

My face turned red well into the second month with Atralin. It'll go away, just make sure you're not using too much.

I've been on differin for 6 months and my face still gets red when I use it. Cutting down to 1-2 times weekly and substituting AHA+. Look online for good green tinted moisturizers, I use one from La Rouche. Regardless of what you do, using topial retinods for people like us with sensitive skin=redness.
