Okay heres dates that I've been on antiobiotics and continually my acne comes back. I think its time I stop immediately, and move on to something more powerful because it is destroying my body...
January 2010-April 2010 (Bactrim, acne cleared up completely and FAST; probably because it was my first time ever on an antibiotic)
November 2010-May 2011 (Variety of antibiotics, finally took Minocyclin 100mg for the majority; acne went completely away)
Now there was a brief time where I was clear and stopped taking antibiotics but....acne came back (understandable when you suddenly stop)
June 2011- September 2011 (Solodyn 65mg; didn't help acne whatsoever)
October 2011-present day (solodyn 115mg; acne is MOSTLY gone, but definitly still present, no imporvement last couple weeks)
So my question is, which I think I already know the answer is, am I destroying my body? Is it time to move on to accutane? This damn derm's keep giving me antibiotics after I repeatedly tell them, I've been on them for a LONG time...

I was on minocycline for 6 months and began breaking out shortly after. I stopped antibiotics immediately, and began breaking out like mad before I was able to get on Accutane. I'm in my 3rd week of Accutane right now and let me tell you...the breakout from getting off of antibiotics+IB from Accutane will be killer. I was only on antibiotics for around half a year and I thought that was too long, but I see that you've been on them for quite some time...so I think you would be making the right choice to stop. I hope you don't experience the same breakouts as I did though...good luck!

It might seem like a lot, but to be honest, antibiotic don't really do much. They are produced to kill off bacteria. Most antibiotics are placed into a very broad category and don't really harm the body, even over a long period of time. You can do a little research and find all that good information. Accutane is a drug that a lot of Dermatologists save till last for some reason. It still a "new" drug and I figure they are scared or just plan out lazy. If the one you are seeing refuses to give it to you then you might want to find a different doctor, if you can. If you feel that it is your last resort and your blood work is good and your doctor tells you that you are healthy to take it, then go for it. Tell them what you have used and tried in the past and that you really want to move past this stage and try Accutane. Hope this helps? Good Luck!
p.s...I was on antibiotic for almost 3 years. Some worked and others didn't. I did Accutane twice and was clear. I get the occasional zit and I'm fighting scars right now. Life goes on and all is good. I didn't have a major breakout when I went from antibiotic to my Accutane. I actually just got clear and a little dry skin.

Well, to be honest, in all this time. I have had zero side effects. No stomach aches, no head aches, nothing...
